Minnesota Energy Alley works to kickstart Minnesota’s clean energy sector

A public-private partnership called Minnesota Energy Alley, is working to accelerate Minnesota’s movement toward a profitable, earth-friendly, clean energy future. The organization's members include the nonprofit Clean Energy Economy Minnesota, Grid Catalyst, and the State of Minnesota. Together, they are committed to identifying funding for clean energy startups.

Minnesota Energy Alley's goals are to attract investors and money from the east and west coasts who can provide the funds to jumpstart Minnesota’s new clean energy businesses. Private funding for the initiative represents most of the capital, with state funding playing a lesser role.

New Virginia, Minnesota, landfill creates geothermal energy by capturing heat from garbage

In early November, a new section of the St. Louis County regional landfill was dedicated. The county has installed eight miles of subterranean tubing in a 10-mile area that captures heat from the garbage as it decomposes. The heat will be used to power a new on-site wastewater treatment plant that will start construction in the Summer of 2025. The wastewater plant will treat the water that comes from the landfill using renewable geothermal energy. The plant will also be able to mitigate per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).
