Acclaimed keyboardist, composer and bandleader Lao Tizer today shares a live-in-studio video of “Kat’s Groove” from the recently released album Amplify by The Lao Tizer Band. The album sees Tizer continuing to knock down boundaries and expand musical horizons. In particular, the band broke a personal boundary by including their first-ever original vocal tracks on the album with the help of American Idol sensation and RIAA Platinum Certified singer Elliott Yamin. Yamin provides lead vocals on Amplify’s 5 original vocal tracks.

The album was recorded and filmed all LIVE in two days at legendary EastWest Studios in Hollywood with a simultaneous 7-camera video shoot directed by acclaimed music-film director, Andy LaViolette (Snarky Puppy) with the audio portion engineered and mixed by Caleb Parker (Scary Pockets, Vulfpeck).
The song “Kat’s Groove” was inspired by Tizer’s 3-year-old daughter Katya:
“When Katya was 9 months old, we were getting ready to go to a family wedding for my wife’s side of the family. My wife Brittany was coming from work and meeting us at the venue, so it was just me and Katya at home, and I was trying to keep her entertained while I got ready. She was sitting in her ‘spaceship’ chair that has all sorts of buttons, sounds, etc but she was getting impatient, so I started singing her this ‘New Orleans’-ish groove to keep her entertained and she started dancing in her chair. I kept singing it to her while I finished getting ready and started singing other ideas for it (melody, verse, chorus, etc). I was thinking ‘this is a pretty cool idea’ so I recorded it on my phone voice memos and when we got home the next day, I went to the piano and figured it out. It was 100% inspired by her and it’s really special it turned into the song it did. When I introduce it onstage, I always tell the story and also tell people, ‘It’s not your typical children’s song.’ The story and tune really connect!”
