An open, nurturing body of Christian believers seeking God's guidance as we minister to others.
|
|
Since the 1940s, aerospace engineers have discussed sending humans to Mars. It’s hard to conceive of such an endeavor, though we are closer today than ever before. An equally mind-stretching concept is resurrection from the dead, a foundational belief of the Christian faith. Join us this Sunday as we unpack RESURRECTION!

Breaking Boundaries
The Science of Our Planet
Thursday, March 30
7:00-9:00pm, Celebration Center
Dave DesJardins, presenter
Scientists tell us that earth’s environments are at a critical moment in human history. Breaking Boundaries presents recent advances in science that help us understand how close we are to passing the earth tipping points of nine key interrelated environmental systems (such as ozone holes, ocean acidification, loss of biodiversity, chemical pollution).
After presenting the serious environmental challenges that are before us, Breaking Boundaries provides a vision of “planetary stewardship” – a rethinking of our relationship with our planet – and plots a new course for our future.
Join us to watch this compelling documentary film narrated by David Attenborough and be part of the discussion following the movie.
Dessert and beverages will be provided.

Serve God, Save the Planet
by Matthew Sleeth, MD
Sundays, 10:15-11:00 am
Room C108/109
The Environmental Justice Class starts a new study this month - Serve God, Save the Planet. Not an alarmist call of despair, but this book is a hopeful invitation to re-imagine the way we live. Sleeth shares the joy of adopting a less materialistic, healthier lifestyle, stronger relationships, and richer spiritual lives. Through this study, we will consider the urgency of current environmental issues coupled with the hopeful faith that the Church is ready to join God in healing the wounded world.
DVD components will supplement the class discussions. (Participants are asked to obtain their own copy of the book.)
All are welcome to join the class at any time.

Methodist Women
and the Right to Vote
Mary McLeod Bethune (1875-1955)
Mary McLeod Bethune is perhaps best known as a champion of African-American education. She taught her siblings and former-slave parents how to read. She founded Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach, Florida. She also championed the rights of African-American voters.
When women won the right to vote in 1920, she organized African American men and women in Florida to go to the polls. She raised money to pay poll taxes and offered special classes for the literacy tests, mandated by Jim Crow laws that tried to silence the black vote. Bethune led the way in desegregating the American Red Cross and Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps. She advised Presidents Coolidge, Hoover, and Roosevelt. She believed everyone had a divine right to cast their ballot.
