A young Black man lights candles at a memorial in Monterey Park after a mass shooting in January 2023

IN THE FACE OF RELENTLESS MASS VIOLENCE, HOW CAN WE SUPPORT EACH OTHER?

We stand in solidarity with our Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) partners and communities. May we all join in supporting each other through our collective trauma and dedicate ourselves to preventing violence directed at any community. NIOT's Pardeep Kaleka suggests ways to stand up and support each other.

"Our communities in California and across our country are reeling from the impact of the tragic and senseless violence that took the lives of 11 people with at least 9 injured in Monterey Park, California on January 21. Just two days later, another mass shooting took the lives of seven people in Half Moon Bay, CA."

FILMS WE LIKE

Executive Director Patrice O'Neill recommends this new film in which Academy Award nominee David Strathairn (Good Night, and Good Luck, Lincoln, Nomadland) portrays Jan Karski in this genre-defying true story of a reluctant World War II hero and Holocaust witness.

Last fall, Strathairn captivated Brooklyn theatergoers with his solo performance in the play on which the film is based with his depiction of the Polish resistance fighter’s harrowing journey through exile during World War II.

Now playing at select theaters across the country.
