The annual Spring Clean-up Day at church will be on Wednesday May 3rd beginning at 9am. Many hands make light work! If you can help, especially with the outdoor chores, please bring gloves, rakes, chainsaws, etc. There is much to do to make our grounds shine again after the long winter that we had. Speak to Lauris Prinsen for more details.

The Road to Emmaus

That same day two of them were walking to the village Emmaus, about seven miles out of Jerusalem. They were deep in conversation, going over all these things that had happened. In the middle of their talk and questions, Jesus came up and walked along with them. But they were not able to recognize who he was.

He asked, “What’s this you’re discussing so intently as you walk along?”

They just stood there, long-faced, like they had lost their best friend. Then one of them, his name was Cleopas, said, “Are you the only one in Jerusalem who hasn’t heard what’s happened during the last few days?”

 He said, “What has happened?”

They said, “The things that happened to Jesus the Nazarene. He was a man of God, a prophet, dynamic in work and word, blessed by both God and all the people. Then our high priests and leaders betrayed him, got him sentenced to death, and crucified him. And we had our hopes up that he was the One, the One about to deliver Israel. And it is now the third day since it happened. But now some of our women have completely confused us. Early this morning they were at the tomb and couldn’t find his body. They came back with the story that they had seen a vision of angels who said he was alive. Some of our friends went off to the tomb to check and found it empty just as the women said, but they didn’t see Jesus.”

Then he said to them, “So thick-headed! So slow-hearted! Why can’t you simply believe all that the prophets said? Don’t you see that these things had to happen, that the Messiah had to suffer and only then enter into his glory?” Then he started at the beginning, with the Books of Moses, and went on through all the Prophets, pointing out everything in the Scriptures that referred to him.

They came to the edge of the village where they were headed. He acted as if he were going on but they pressed him: “Stay and have supper with us. It’s nearly evening; the day is done.” So he went in with them. And here is what happened: He sat down at the table with them. Taking the bread, he blessed and broke and gave it to them. At that moment, open-eyed, wide-eyed, they recognized him. And then he disappeared.

There will be a short training session on April 30th after worship. If you have never learned about using this device, or it has been some time and you could use a refresher, please stay for this.

Sunday morning fellowship

Jody Perrine has been the main organizer for fellowship time after worship. She has made sure that we have had someone signed up to set-up, provide treats, and clean-up after each week for the last year. It is time for someone else to take the lead on this.

We also need people to sign-up for Sundays. Please check your schedules to see if this is something that you could do for those that you worship with. It is easiest to sign-up with a partner, and two people can manage this just fine. As far as the food goes, it does not need to be anything fancy! It is nice to have a sweet treat with coffee, bars or cookies are great! Store bought is fine. Fresh fruit is always a sure thing. Please speak with Pastor Jen if you are willing to organize volunteers for the next 3 months; if you can sign up for a date to serve, please do so on the clipboard in the Narthex.

The schedule for after Easter is empty right now. Please help if you can, so we can continue with this important ministry of fellowship.

SPECIAL WORSHIP SERVICE

On Sunday April 23rd, we will not be having our regular worship service at Grace UMC. We will be worshipping as one body at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Pequot Lakes. The liturgy will be shared between Pastor Jen and Pastor Stephen (OSL), and our Praise Team will be sharing some special music. Please plan to attend this special Sunday, and we will be looking ahead to a time this summer that we can invite them into our church too.

Please help us to spread the word!

The Annual GUMC Rummage Sales dates are set for June 22nd and 23rd! Spring has finally sprung! Please remember us as you clean out those closets for spring cleaning. Donations are greatly appreciated and can be dropped off in the youth room with the risers. It is suggested that you either bring them on Sunday mornings or during the week when the church is open from 9-12. Items that we will not be accepting are electronics (i.e. TVs, VCRs or computers) or Books. There are other organizations that would be happy to take those items off your hands. If you have large consignment items that you would be interested in selling, to benefit the church please contact Paul Lundgren, 218-232-7101.

If you have something that should be added to this newsletter from your group or mission, please speak with Pastor Jen or email the details to her at jenmatt20@gmail.com. The E-Grace is generally completed by noon on Thursdays, so articles need to be received by Thursday 10am at the very latest.

If you wish to connect with me directly and it is not an emergency, please know that I will respond as needed during pretty regular office hours. I am generally in the church on Tuesdays--Fridays, from at least 10-12, call the office to be sure, as my weeks may vary. Ann has my detailed schedule and can find me if needed. I check my emails frequently throughout the day, and this is the best way to contact me.
