Assistance for L.A. Fire Victims

As you may know, thousands of structures have been destroyed, including Corpus Christi Church in Pacific Palisades due to the wildfires. (At this time, we are hearing its school was damaged). We pray for those who have lost their lives, the injured, the displaced and those who are filled with fear or sadness. Under the guidance of Bishop Vann, we will continue to take up an emergency collection so that we can:

  • Provide assistance to the affected parishes’ St. Vincent de Paul societies in their efforts to provide immediate food, shelter, clothing, etc.
  • Provide assistance to Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles as they help families to rebuild their lives.
  • Provide tuition assistance to students who have lost their homes.
  • Support the rebuilding of parishes and schools.

World Day of the Sick Mass

Most Reverend Timothy Freyer will celebrate a World Day of the Sick Mass on Saturday, February 8th at 10 am at Christ Cathedral (13280 Chapman Ave. Garden Grove, CA 92840). This will include Mass and ceremonies for anointing the sick, laying on of hands, blessing of caregivers’ hands, and blessing with Lourdes water.

Anointing of the sick is a Sacrament of the Church and is offered to one who is dangerous ill due to sickness, injury, or old age. The Sacrament is for serious mental or emotional illness as well. While we should not be excessively concerned about the degree of seriousness of the condition, the casual participation in the Sacrament must be avoided in good conscience.
