THIS WEEK AT ST JOHN'S

Dear Friends:

As we begin Holy Week this Sunday with the Palm Sunday procession, more than ever, I am aware of how much we need our imaginations.

When I was in Jerusalem, walking down the steep hill of the Mount of Olives, I learned that on Palm Sunday, all the churches gather there for a shared procession. They stop along the way to retell the story, each place an episode. There’s a place where you hear Jesus say: “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills its prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often have I desired to gather your children as a hen gathers her brood under her wings…” Then they continue down the hill, across the valley and up into the old city.

As we walked with the incredible view of Jerusalem, it was as if we saw the story happening in our minds. This is also what we will do this Sunday in a procession with our palm branches. As if we were there or as if it is happening to us right now, the story and our present moment converge.

That’s Holy Week! I hope you will join us for the first installment this Sunday 8:00 and 10:15 a.m.

WHAT'S HAPPENING

During Holy Week, our choir will be joined by the Strings of St John's chamber orchestra to perform the Requiem by John Rutter, one of the most prolific and well-loved composers of our time.

The concert will be presented twice: Palm Sunday, April 2 at 2:00 pm, and Good Friday, April 7 at 7:30 pm.

Tickets are available online at www.RutterRequiem.ca.

Come join us for an hour of beautiful music for contemplation and meditation.

Maundy Thursday

We are excited to have a good number of parishioners getting together over a delicious lamb meal on this Maundy Thursday, April 6 at 6pm. We could use a few more helping hands on clean-up duty and wish to remind people that it comes with a free ticket.

ART CREDO IS COMING!

Mark your calendars! This year’s 44th Art

Credo Exhibit and Sale will run from

Saturday April 29th to Sunday May 14th .

This year’s show will comprise

approximately 100 works of art from over

50 artists. The Vernissage will be in the evening of Friday April 28th .

Everyone is invited to come; and to bring a friend.

Come meet some of

the artists. We are looking for volunteers for some activities related to Art

Credo. For instance, if you can offer 3 hours of your time during the

exhibition to act as a sitter, there is a sign-up sheet on-line at

https://tinyurl.com/yx6e5tvj . We are also looking for help with receiving

the artworks on Thursday evening April 27th and hanging them in the

church on Friday morning April 28th .

Go to the webpage http://www.artcredo.ca/index.php/gallery to see what

the church looks like during Art Credo.
