CPUC Broadband Resources for California

The Commission’s Broadband Caseworker team provides technical assistance and educational resources to California local governments, Tribal nations, and other stakeholders. Broadband Funding on the Horizon. Watch for an opportunity to provide input on California’s Broadband Equity Access and Deployment (BEAD) Initial Proposal. Application windows are expected to open in 2024 for CPUC funding programs focused on broadband access, affordability, and infrastructure. Communities may be interested in learning about the Broadband Loan Loss Reserve Fund, the Broadband Equity Access and Deployment Program, and the California Advanced Services Fund (CASF). Programs At-A-Glance.
The Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) Program. California has been allocated approximately $1.86 from the Infrastructure, Investment, and Jobs Act (IIJA) to expand high-speed internet access by funding planning, infrastructure deployment and adoption programs. The CPUC has hosted public meetings throughout California for input on the new BEAD grant program. The Broadband Loan Loss Reserve Fund is a $750 million fund that expands the ability of local governments, tribes and non-profits to obtain better financing rates and terms for building last-mile projects, with an emphasis on public broadband networks. The California Advanced Services Fund (CASF) provides grants for broadband infrastructure development, tribal technical assistance, publicly available or after-school broadband access and digital inclusion, low income and public housing connections, and more.
