Massachusetts Latent Tuberculosis Infection ECHO

FHCW Wednesday Cultural Rounds
The residents at FHCW host the event each Wednesday from 5 – 5:30pm. We welcome a member of the community to talk about their culture and the ways it can impact their health and the care they receive. The sessions are informal and involve a robust Q&A. Research Support

The FMCH Town Halls are once again being recorded for those unable to join the live meeting. A separate folder has been created on the FMCH website under Faculty Resources. Faculty Presentations/Publications

Haley Schachter, SOM ‘22 and Aisling Ryan, RN DNP ‘22, will present The Impact of Navigators on Community-Specific Social Determinants of Health through Novel Interventions Tailored to the Outer Cape Cod Community at the New England Rural Health Association on May 20th, 2021, 1:00 p.m. This work is related to their Population and Community Health Clerkship with faculty member, Andy Lowe, director of the Cape and Island AHEC/OCHS. Suzanne Cashman, ScD, MS gave a presentation entitled, Pre-clinical Medical Student Reflections on Implicit Bias: Implications for Learning and Teaching at the recent Beyond Flexner annual conference.

Hugh Silk, MD, MPH, FAAFP was a panelist on a Carequest webinar on April 29th on the topic of Oral Health, Primary Care, and the COVID-19 Pandemic speaking about Integration of Primary Care and Oral Health: What Does the Future Hold. (Webinar available here: https://www.carequest.org/education/webinars). The webinar was part of a launch of a new report from the Center for Primary Care at Harvard Medical School entitled: Primary Care in the COVID-19 Pandemic which you can access here: http://info.primarycare.hms.harvard.edu/primary-care-during-covid-0?hs_preview=UGbOsdDT-43351685945 . Hugh also wrote the chapter entitled Integration of Primary Care and Oral Health for the Report.

Annual Faculty Review Deadline- May 15th.
  • Reminder to clinical faculty to meet with your medical director or supervisor to complete the AFR Meetings.

COVID Update
Unites States Cases 33,180,441; Deaths 591,062.
Massachusetts
  • Total Cases 647,768. Active Cases 24,104. % 7-d.ay positivity 1.49%. Hospitalizations 525. ICU 143. Intubated 81. Confirmed deaths 17, 270.
  • Massachusetts has delivered > 6M doses of the COVID vaccine, with 2.5M fully vaccinated.
  • Current state positivity rate is down to 1.49%.

UMass Memorial -- Some improving trends!
  • Current inpatient census 26 (11 in ICU), as of Monday am.
  • Umass Memorial in house test positivity for symptomatic individuals down to 8.4%.
  • Worcester “stop-the-spread” test positivity down to 4.9%.
  • Only 14 caregivers are out of work due to COVID-19 (1 in past 48 hrs, vaccinated).

COVID Test Collection Tent location located at 350 Plantation Street in Worcester will be closed for Memorial Day, May 31.

When are you fully vaccinated?
  • Two weeks after the second dose of Pfizer or Moderna.
  • Two weeks after receiving Johnson and Johnson's Janssen vaccine.

If you are fully vaccinated:
  • You can gather in person without a mask with other vaccinated individuals except in crowded venues.
  • Travel in the US does not require testing before or after travel. Self-quarantine is not required.
  • International travel requires a negative test before travel, test 3-5 days after return, and self-quarantine is not required after returning to the US. 
  • Stay 6 feet apart.  

Labor and Delivery Management and COVID (UMass Memorial)
  • As of April 30, patients with a negative COVID-19 test are allowed to walk in the hallway with their support person as a part of labor management. Both must wear a mask.
  • Patients who are COVID positive or PUIs must remain in their rooms.
  • Always review guidelines before initiating walking.
Wellness Resources

The Wellness Committee would like to organize a few informal outdoor gatherings. We have all been isolated and working hard for more than one year now. Our hope is to give faculty and staff in the department a chance to connect in-person, in safe and healthy way. Please take 2 minutes to complete the attached survey. 

The Caring for the Caregiver Program provides resources such as the Caregiver Support Line (508-334-HELP) and The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) which offers a variety of services and supports (including virtual peer support and wellness tips.
