Hello Bailey-

At our staff meeting this week, along with planning and prayer, we shared laughter and stories. And we had good snacks too.

Covenant is a great church and one of the best things about the church is our staff--capable, competent, and good-hearted people, several of whom are pictured below.

I am especially grateful for the staff as we continue through this transtion time, when we are short-staffed. I look forward to welcoming two new staff in the not-too-distant future.

  • Associate Pastor
  • Children and Youth Ministry Coordinator

These full time positions will be vital to the coming years of our church, so I'm grateful that each search committee is a great team.

Associate Pastor Nominating Committee: Brad Brown, Betsy Erickson, Bret Larget, Brenda Moten, Carrie Sanders, TJ Sargent, and Jenny Von Bergen.

Children and Youth Ministry Coordinator Search Committee: Brad Brown, Sally Lorenz, Arlene Kennedy, Ann Sydnor, Haila Conley, Grady Brown, and Steve Whayland.

Reminder: Clara Thompson is officially retiring (again!) at the end of May. She has been a huge blessing to us as our Parish Associate, and I'm grateful that she has extended her time with us so long. She will be preaching on May 14. Her last Sunday on staff at Covenant is May 28.

Please pray for and encourage the staff and the search committees as we continue forward together. As the church, we are the body of Christ--one body, with many parts. Many wonderful parts!

On the journey together,

Charlie

Join us Sunday at 10:00am for a class on the book of Revelation, led by Covenant member John Strikwerda. This will be a two-part class, concluding next week. The book of Revelation is the last book in the Bible. John describes Revelation as an action movie with a poor plot but amazing special effects. “Experience it. Do not try to figure it out. It is as violent as any action movie ever made.” Join us this Sunday and next Sunday!

JOIN US ON SUNDAY for a Spiritual Stroll at the Farley Center's Natural Path Sanctuary (2299 Spring Rose Rd, Verona). We’ll also get a guided tour of the grounds! Meet in the parking lot and be sure to wear appropriate footwear in case it is muddy. These strolls are part of CONNECT, a program of events sponsored by the deacons of Covenant with the intention of fostering connection within the congregation and community.

Associate Pastor and Children & Youth Ministries Coordinator

On Sunday, we will be launching our search for a new Associate Pastor and Children & Youth Ministries Coordinator. For now, if you have any questions or ideas for either of these positions, contact the Associate Pastor Nominating Committee (APNC) or Children & Youth Ministries Coordinator Search Committee (CYMCSC).

RAF is returning to its regular format after six very enlightening weeks of a book study on The Sum of Us by Heather McGhee. RAF highly recommends this book! RAF meets via Zoom and all are welcome at any time. This 12-step program is invaluable in directing our minds and hearts to a better (and Christ-like) way of living! Contact Jennifer Morgan to receive the RAF link.

Loving God, in your mercy hear our prayers for. . .

This week's white rose commemorates the life of Nancy Washburn, friend of Bob Cole.

New this week: Emily Schroeder and Miko Hinojosa, friends of Covenant; Eirik, the son of a friend of John Strikwerda.

We pray for healing, for courage, and for peace, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Wednesday, May 3, 12:00pm

You are invited to a good ol' fashioned potluck! This mid-week gathering will give us an opportunity to connect and catch up. Feel free to cook up a storm at home, pick up something at your favorite grocery store, or favorite restaurant for a carry-out dish to share. Beverages, plates, and utensils will be provided. Feel free to bring a friend as we enjoy a time of good food and warm fellowship! These potlucks are on the 1st Wednesdays of the month.

Over the past three years during Covid, we’ve received several new members and we’ve had several baptisms. Too many of these special events happened over Zoom or in a mostly-empty sanctuary. We want a second chance to welcome these folks into the Covenant community, so we’ll have a beach-themed party. Cake will be served at 10:00 and we’ll provide lunch at 12:00. Keep an eye out for more info on this!
