Jazz at Naz Continues

The Soraya’s month-long Jazz at Naz celebration continues with the 2023 GRAMMY Award-winning Best New Artist Samara Joy with the Clayton-Hamilton Orchestra. With her Verve Records debut Linger Awhile, 23-year-old Bronx native Samara Joy joins the likes of Sarah Vaughn, Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday as the venerable label’s next jazz singing sensation. Her rich, velvety, and precociously refined voice has earned fans such as Anita Baker and Regina King, along with millions of likes on TikTok, have cemented her status as the first Gen-Z jazz singing star. The concert is sold-out but available via The Soraya’s Live Stream at www.thesoraya.org More>>

Turn of the Screw

But it’s really all about the performances here. And they are absolutely electric. I loved it. One act. Fasted paced. Purposeful, but not forced. The governess is played with authenticity, understanding, and a gentle earnestness. Every one of the other characters is how she remembers them, so they can be ethereal. But Mr Mullen plays them all with absolute truth and it works perfectly.

Run for Your Wife

A London cab driver, John Smith, is leading two lives, complete with two different wives; Mary and Barbara. He manages to juggle them both without arousing suspicion until he gets mugged and wakes up in the hospital with the wrong wife by his side. He is forced to explain things to his two wives and hilarity ensues. 

Director Sherman Wayne says to get ready for “virtually continuous laughter.”
