Week 36: January 25, 2025

Checking in on your goals

Andrea,

This week, revisit the progress you've made on your goals thus far, and hold yourself accountable by checking in with your Board of Advisors. Having a realistic view will help you keep things in perspective, even as you get busier!

The 100 Week Sprint team

To-do's this week
Got 5 minutes? Revisit your goals and consider the ones where you have (or perhaps haven't) made progress on.

Got 30 minutes? Touch base with your Board of Advisors.

Got an hour? Reconnect with non-MBA friends and give them a brief update on life; check in on theirs too!

Revisit your goals

Now that you're well on your way in business school, it's a great time to stop and take a look at your progress, both for yourself and for the people you are holding yourself accountable to, particularly your Advisory Board.

During Week 4, we emphasized the importance of setting and sticking to goals throughout your business school experience. We hope you have kept these goals in the top of your mind as you've gone through classes, networking, recruiting, and socializing.

Now is the time to revisit your goals again to determine how well you are doing on each one that you had set.

Consider your progress

  • You should also take a look at factors that might not have been included in your goals, including: What have you learned in your classes? Also, have you gotten to know your professors
  • How do you expect to use those lessons in your internship, or in a post-grad career?
  • What kind of networking successes have you had? Have you been able to keep in touch with people you met?
  • Have you identified target companies at which to pursue internships? What companies or paths have surprised you?
  • Which student groups have you joined, if any? Have they been helpful in equipping you with resources and insight?
  • What leadership roles have you taken on or considered? As mentioned in Week 21, are there positions already available or do you need to create your own opportunities? Have you been positioning yourself to take on additional roles?

Keep yourself on track

Research has validated that writing down your goals and sharing them with others will help you achieve those milestones - individuals who adopted such habits were 33% more successful than those who did not.

Kill two birds with one stone by taking the time now to connect with the Advisory Board that you put together in Week 12. Send a quick, friendly email updating them with your progress, along with anything else you think they'd find interesting or exciting about your MBA experience so far. Tailor each email to include details and questions relevant to each Board member's expertise (Sage, Number Cruncher, Moral Compass, Networker, and/or Heavy Hitter). Not only will this process hold yourself accountable for your goals, but may unlock some recruiting opportunities!
