Sunapee Happenings

“Table for two on the porch”

Though snow covered roofs, roadside snow banks and the thermometer seem to say otherwise... ’tis Spring!  At precisely 5:24 pm EDT on Monday, when we weren’t looking… the Spring Equinox happened. The point in time when Southern and Northern Hemispheres each had precisely equal amounts of sunlight. Surely apple blossoms and daffodils will soon be popping up.

CUE THE MUSIC

Friday March 24 @ 7: Sunapee Coffeehouse features Jennifer Cully Curtin.

On her website Jennifer Curtin says: “My name is Jennifer and I live in the wilds of central Vermont with my husband Jim and two kids, Finbar and Maeve. I have always had a passion for singing and making music of all kinds. Recently, with the help of Colin McCaffrey, I released a recording of traditional and contemporary Celtic & British Isles songs titled "Comfort for the Comfortless". I hope that you will enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it (which was a lot!). May the songs inspire you to go out and make your own music – or at least sing in the shower!”

The press says: “Curtin has a lovely voice and “Comfort for the Comfortless” is an apt title, as this album never jars the senses nor makes promises it can’t keep. Instead we have a fine singer at home in a genre of music that emanates from lands far across the sea.” Learn More

Thursday March 30: Peabody's Coal Train at the Flying Goose.

Back for an encore in the area after a sold out concert at The Livery in January!

Musicians are Jason Teaster on acoustic guitar, Dave Anderson on harmonica, Steve Cybulski on banjo, Dave Carroll on mandolin, Marc Fraley on bass, and Scott Hayes on guitar and dobro. Hailing from the Contoocook River Valley of central NH, they play originals and covers that tell stories celebrating the triumphs and tragedies of the human condition. They particularly appreciate opportunities to interact with a listening audience in special venues with neighbors and new friends. Watch VIDEO

SPECIAL PROGRAM NOTE

LET'S GET ARTSY

OSCAR Best Picture Winner at The HOP.  "Everything, Everywhere, All At Once."

A floundering business, a meek husband and a sick father aren't the only things ruining Evelyn Wang's (Michelle Yeoh) day. Her twentysomething daughter (Stephanie Hsu) is increasingly distant, and she's being audited by the IRS. This heap of misfortune is all too much to bear until an intermediary from another universe enlists Evelyn in a fight to restore order and sense to the world by aligning her with all possible versions of herself and discovering her innate strength. In a cosmic stew of fractured lives and alternate selves, directors Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert have stirred up a crowd-pleasing, box-office smash that brings the gargantuan project of the Marvel Universe down to the relatable level of the everyday. NEW PUBLICATION

The Literary Arts Guild of the Center For the Arts announces the publication of poetry about Farming in New Hampshire.

New London--The Literary Arts Guild of the Center for the Arts is pleased to announce publication of the fifth book in its Visual Verse series, entitled, Rooted in New Hampshire: Farming the Lake Sunapee Region. The poems in this volume are inspired by photographs from nine regional farms. In partnership with Adventures in Learning, a rollout event for the book to which the public is invited will take place on Wednesday March 29, 2023, at 5 p.m. at Lethbridge Lodge, Colby-Sawyer College, New London, NH.

Rooted In New Hampshire is a tribute to the over 4000 farms averaging about 100 acres each whose open lands still help to preserve much of New Hampshire’s rural character. In addition, the book attests to the importance of area farms in providing our communities with a high-quality array of fresh foods, abundant wildlife habitats, continuation of our distinct cultural heritage, and significant contributions to our state’s economy.

Sanctuary Farm: Cover photo
