Boston Student Field Trip and Reception
On  Thursday, April 5th, 2018, Real Estate students traveled to Boston, Massachusetts to visit with leading industry professionals. 

TA Realty hosted the students for lunch and the after noon presentations included visits with
Boston Capital and  NorthMarq Capital .

TA Realty is a leading private real estate investment firm focusing  on value-added, commingled funds and  core separate advisory accounts. TA Partner and  UConn Alumnus, Jim Raisides,  opened the luncheon presentation on the state of real estate and what students can aim to achieve in the industry.  UConn Alumna, Christine Elmore, VP Acquisitions and associates Dave Freeman and Christina McElhinney talked about some of the more current investment projects as well as some unique industrial opportunities TA has been involved in.   
 
Boston Capital is ranked one of the largest owners / syndicators of apartments in the country.  UConn Alumni Michael Dengler, VP, Assistant Director of Asset Management and Michael Flarety and Abby Murphy spoke about Boston Capital Portfolio investments and the impact of tax reform   on the Affordable Housing industry.  Other presenters included: Tracy DiBona, Portfolio Management and Rachel Sullivan, Senior Asset Manager.  Courtney Buckley, Director of Human Resources and Emily Dyson spoke about job opportunities with in the Affordable Housing sector. 

NorthMarq Capital is one of the nation's largest privately held servicer and provider of commercial real estate debt and equity.  UConn alumna, Stacie McB urney, Senior Investment Analyst  and alumni Ryan Demadis, VP Producer gave a presentation on a current mixed use project in Clinton Connecticut.  
 
 

The day was informative and gave the students a great view of what the real estate field could hold for those with a passion for the industry.  A special thank you to TA Realty for providing and hosting lunch.


 
The day concluded with a reception  at the Hyatt Regency Boston as alumni and students  networked and visited.  


 
                                

Windsor  - East Grandby Warehouse Visit
 
On Friday March 30, 2018 the Real Estate students had the opportunity to visit with Scott Bosco and Tim Lescalleet of Griffin Industrial Realty.   Students viewed the 600 acre, master-planned industrial business park at the New England tradeport in Windsor & East Grandy, CT. 

Tim gave an overview of the warehouse industry and the many facets that can comprise of planning and leasing in that sector of real estate. 


 Scott presented an overview of a new custom building and ground breaking project. 

Griffin Industrial Realty, Inc. is a East coast focused owner, operator and developer of over 4 million SF with land holdings in CT, MA, PA and NC.  It is home to Dollar Tree, Walgreens, Domino's Easton, FedEx, Westinghouse, Pepsi, Pitney Bowes, UPS and Tire Rack.

2018 Student Placement
The Center for Real Estate and Urban Economic Studies is in the process of assembling resumes of internship candidates and graduating majors in Real Estate as well as other allied disciplines.  Real estate students have or are in the process of completing what many consider to be one of the best academic real estate programs in the country.
