The Arts and Cultural Alliance of Newport County’s monthly networking event, Arts Around the Fire, continues on Wednesday, November 15. The Alliance’s guest will be Kern Maass, the new president of the IYRS School of Technology & Trades.


Maass has worked in higher education for the last 20 years advocating for creative and applied disciplines.

2024 ACA Artist Award

The Arts & Cultural Alliance of Newport County’s (ACA) is now accepting applications for the 2024 Artist Award.


The award is presented annually to a Newport County artist to support artistic endeavors that benefit the community. The application deadline is March 1, 2024.

2024 Artist in Residence Program


The Newport Art Museum announces that the application process is now open for its 2024 Artist in Residence program (AiR Newport). AiR Newport 24 is open to emerging to established artists, located in the U.S.) for one-month residencies.


The Newport artist residency is designed to encourage the creative, intellectual, and personal growth of emerging to established visual artists and designers by giving them the time, space, and solitude needed to create, apart from the daily demands of production and deadlines.

Holiday Card Art Contest


The town of Middletown is sponsoring its fourth annual holiday card contest. This year’s theme is “Middletown Winter Celebrations.” Entries are asked to share a favorite winter activity, community event or festive gathering in Middletown. The contest is open to all Middletown residents, including school age children, amateur artists and photograph enthusiasts. Artwork should be a drawing, painting or photography in full color and not to exceed 5.5-by-8 inches.


Winning entries and the name of the artist will be reproduced on holiday cards and other material for distribution. In addition, winners will receive a $50 gift card. The deadline is Nov. 22.

Portsmouth Arts Guild Members and Non-Members are invited to price their work to sell during the holiday season. All media are welcome and diversity is encouraged. Artwork in any media, paintings, drawings, photography, digital, sculpture, ceramics and more are accepted.


Entry Fees for Members are $20.00 for the first piece and $5.00 for each additional and for Non-Members, $25.00 for the first and $7.50 each additional.
