READINGS FOR THE BAPTISM OF THE LORD
PRACTICE OF FAITH
Every time a new Christian is baptized, the Church echoes God's heaven-sent proclamation, "You are my beloved... with you I am well pleased." On this last day of the Christmas season, we are invited to remember our baptism, through which we were welcomed as children of God.
- In a family or other gathering, pull out baptismal pictures, garments, candles, and mementos, and retell the stories of each person's special day.
- Reach out to godparents and godchildren with a text, phone call, or invitation to dinner. Offer words of encouragement for their journey in faith for the coming year.
- As part of grace before dinner, light candles and renew your promise to keep the light of Christ burning brightly through your life.

Thanks so much to our children and their parents along with Adventure Children’s Theater, Sarah Seignuret, who helped direct our Christmas Pageant! Thanks to the parents who helped with Costumes. Thanks as well to Marti Bolcer who was our Narrator. It was a joy filled day!
Thank you so much for your tremendous support of our Christmas Basket program for our neighbors in need. 88 families received Christmas baskets this Christmas, including: 146 adults and 193 children, with a total of 247 boxes of food valued at $7,410, and $8,275 worth of gift cards for the purchase of non-perishable food and gifts. Your generosity is sincerely appreciated in helping make this a brighter Christmas for these families.
Every weekday, families or individuals in Kirkland and Kenmore contact the church to request assistance for rent, utilities, food, clothing, gasoline, and other essential needs. The parish relies on our SVDP group to provide help and hope to these neighbors. Because of the increasing number of calls for assistance, our SVDP group could use your help to respond to the needs of our neighbors. If you are interested in volunteering with or learning more about this ministry, please contact the SJV office.

We said farewell to our parish Boy Scout Troop. They have been a gift to our community, helping with yard clean up, picnic set up, and completing many Eagle Scout projects that enhanced our parish. Our troop members have been welcomed into Troop #579 that meets at Kamiakin Middle School. Thank you, Troop #565, for being a gift to our parish. We will miss you!

MARY STATUE
Candi Betts
If you walk out the front entrance of our church, past all of the beautiful pots to the end of the sidewalk and look across the driveway you can see the Mary statue carved out of an old madrone stump with all of the beautiful plants around it and also at the planted area closer to the church, those are the two areas adopted a number of years ago by Candi Betts. It is obvious that she has put in countless hours planting and maintaining all of the beautiful flowers that seem to be constantly showing their colors from early spring until late fall, and even some of them are looking good thru the winter. Candi can be seen frequently working there tending her gorgeous landscape. Thank you, Candi, for all of the hours that you have put in here at SJV doing more than your share of keeping the grounds looking so beautiful. You are much appreciated.
ADOPT-A-GARDEN BED
In another week we will be halfway thru January and then in a couple more months we will be approaching the annual spring yard clean up event. Time goes fast. We are looking forward to your help again in getting our yard ready for Easter and on thru the rest of the year. A number of beds are being carefully attended to by our parishioners who have adopted them. Many more are available for adoption if you are so inclined. Some beds are small and do not take much work other than pulling weeds and making them look nice. Others are larger and have many shrubs that need to be maintained, roses to be tended as well as rhododendrons to be dead headed. Adopters can do what they wish to their little or big plots and as you can see, many add some of their own plantings. Our goal is to keep our beautiful grounds looking that way. So, if you would like to adopt a bed, get in touch with Tony Z either by phone, or email or stop him if you see him at Mass. He will be very happy to find you a plot that will suit your needs. If you have a bed currently, please check in with Tony and confirm that you would like to keep taking care of it. He is looking forward to chatting with many of you. Tony’s phone: 206-999-0804, email: tzimrman@yahoo.com
