Craig Finn has announced today’s second season premiere of That’s How I Remember It, his acclaimed original podcast series examining the connection between memory and creativity. Co-produced and distributed by Talkhouse, each episode of That’s How I Remember It with Craig Finn features a discussion between Finn and one creator – including musicians, authors, filmmakers, and more – about the role memory plays in their art. These exclusive conversations reveal the different ways each creator synthesizes their remembered life experience to tell stories about themselves and the world we live in.

That’s How I Remember It with Craig Finn Season 2 premieres today, February 1, with an in-depth interview with award-winning writer George Saunders (Lincoln in the Bardo, Tenth of December: Stories) available at Spotify, iTunes, and all leading podcast providers; new episodes will premiere every Wednesday. Finn’s upcoming guests will include such singular creators as Eric Bachmann (Archers of Loaf), Amanda Shires, Ben Gibbard (Death Cab for Cutie, The Postal Service), and Kevin Morby, the latter to be recorded later this month in front of a live audience at Brooklyn, NY’s On Air Fest. Additional guests will be announced soon.

Welcome back for season two of That’s How I Remember It,” says Craig Finn. “I’m thrilled to kick off this season with a conversation with the incredible George Saunders. George has written some of my favorite recent fiction, and his 2022 book Liberation Day is a fascinating story collection that we get into deeply here. We talk about Johnny Tremain, humor in stories, drawing on memories of old jobs, late-stage capitalism, gentle revolution, and so much more. We even spoke a bit about songwriting at the end of the episode. I was honored to have such an amazing mind join me here, and I’m so excited to be back with another season of the podcast.

Working with Craig on the first season of his show was an absolute privilege and we were totally thrilled with how well the show was received by listeners and advertisers,” says Talkhouse Executive Editor Josh Modell. “Craig has unsurprisingly amassed a really special and dedicated fanbase over the years – us included. We are so excited for fans and new listeners to hear what Craig has put together for the second season.

That’s How I Remember It with Craig Finn premiered last spring with an in-depth conversation with Drive-By Truckers co-founder Patterson Hood and swiftly proved an immediate podcast favorite around the world, quickly ascending to the top 5 on Apple Podcasts’ “Top Episodes: Music” chart as well as Spotify’s top 15 on “Top Podcasts: Music” in the US and top 20 on “Top Podcasts: Music” in the UK. A remarkable series of insightful and illuminating exchanges followed, with Finn joined by guests including Brian Koppelman, Fred Armisen, Edward Kitsis, Nick Lowe, The Mountain Goats’ John Darnielle, Allison Moorer, Metric’s Emily Haines, Tom Perrotta, Maggie Smith, and Counting Crows’ Adam Duritz.

When I started this podcast, it was largely a way to continue to discuss the themes of my 2022 record ‘A Legacy of Rentals,’” says Finn. “I wanted to speak to creative friends and other people I admire about the way that our memories and their distortions affect the stories we tell ourselves and others. As I started to have these conversations, I found the results really fascinating, and I learned that I really enjoyed the process. I’m excited to explore more on this topic with some amazing new guests for season two of That’s How I Remember It.

As noted, That’s How I Remember It was inspired in part by Finn’s acclaimed new solo album, A Legacy of Rentals, available now via Positive Jams/Thirty Tigers in several formats, including digital download, CD, and standard vinyl. Hailed by Pitchfork for its “meticulous, vivid world-building,” the album includes the singles “Messing With The Settings,” “Birthdays,” and “The Amarillo Kid,” all joined by official music videos streaming now on YouTube.
