A literary reading by contributors

to the journal

Deep Wild: Writing from the Backcountry.

Deep Wild: Writing from the Backcountry is the home for creative work inspired by journeys to places where there are no roads. Each summer, the journal publishes poems, essays, stories, and visual art that convey the experiences and insights of adventures pursued by foot, skis, kayak, horseback, or other non-motorized means. So far it has featured close to 200 writers who have raised their voices in celebration of and in defense of wild places.

2023 For the Love of Reading

Youth Reading Challenge

Feb. 1st - 28th

Join the Challenge Today!

This February, youth ages 0-18, can share their love of reading with fun activities and lots of reading!

To complete this challenge read whatever you want for a total of four hours or more during February 2023.

Make sure you log every single minute you spend reading, no matter what you read - books, ebooks, graphic novels, comics, audio books, and magazines all count. Reading aloud counts twice - once for the reader and once for the listener!

Everyone who registers for this challenge earns a registration reward from our reading reward treasure chest. We have hot cocoa packets in the treasure chest, while supplies last!

Saturday, February 4th

10:30 am @ Star Hall

Moab Music Festival artists will present Carnival of the Animals by French composer Charles Camille Saint-Saens, with Angelica Salazar's narration and violin, Steven White on cello, and Michael Barrett on piano. We encourage all participants to come dressed as their favorite animal (animal PJs are also a great choice!), and bring their favorite animal stuffy.

Musical Story Hour is a collaboration between the Moab Music Festival and the Grand County Public Library, with additional support from the Synergy Company and the City of Moab. It is always free and suitable for all ages.
