October Students of the Month

SABRINA MAY

CLASS OF 2024

Senior Sabrina May is involved in many clubs and activities at North Hunterdon. Her academic activities include the National Honor Society, English, Spanish, and Art Honor Societies, Interact Club, Model United Nations, Student Ambassadors, and Photo Club. Sabrina is President of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), which helps students learn more about the business world. Since her family has a history with cancer, she is proud to serve as a Relay for Life Executive for the American Cancer Society. Sabrina has received the West Point Dwight D. Eisenhower Leadership Award and Pierre-Auguste Renoir Art Award. Her favorite classes at North have been an independent study in Graphic Design Principles, Honors College Writing, Business and Marketing, and AP Economics. Each of these classes have challenged her in different ways and played a role in why she wants to attend Penn State to study Marketing and Graphic Design, so she can learn how to influence businesses to become more environmentally sustainable. Sabrina aspires to work for a company passionate about protecting the environment and giving back to the community. Her sports activities include being a member of North Soccer for two years, cross country for one year, indoor and outdoor track for three years, and is currently manager for the Lady Lions Soccer Team. She loves being on track relay teams that are setting school record titles and representing the school at Nationals for several seasons. Outside of North, Sabrina participates in art contests focusing on environmental social change. She enjoys photographing sports teams and managing social media accounts for North’s female soccer and lacrosse teams. Sabrina has been a volunteer teacher at Immaculate Conception Church for many years and enjoys being a youth coach for Goalquest Soccer Club. The past four years at North have been memorable. Sabrina made valuable connections with classmates and faculty and shared many laughs and sports highlights with her teammates. Attending North Hunterdon has allowed her the ability to make new experiences, pursue her passions, and form lasting relationships with people in the community.

SOPHIA ROBERTS

CLASS OF 2024

Sophia Roberts is Vice President of the Class of 2024. Sophia is a member of National, Math, Science, and Social Studies Honor Societies. She is a three-year member of Madrigals Choir, a four-year member of Daily Choir, and has been a delegate in Model UN for the past four years. Sophia plays varsity lacrosse for the Lions and plays lacrosse year-round for a travel team. She volunteers as a youth lacrosse coach where she helps run practice and drills with her players and over the summer, works as a camp counselor. Sophia’s favorite classes at North were World History with Mr. Yocum because he made the subject matter very engaging and the bonus point opportunities added a fun and competitive chance to earn extra credit. She also enjoyed Calculus because even though it was difficult at times, conceptually Sophia enjoyed learning it. Also, Mr. Halldorson’s dad jokes were way better during Calculus than they were during Pre-Calc. Sophia’s favorite memories from North were attending the Friday night football games and dressing up in themes. She has also enjoyed every dance she has been to, especially the ones she helped plan and organize during her four years at North. Next year, Sophia is undecided on which school she will attend, but is applying to Brown, UVA, Bucknell, and University of Richmond. She plans to study Materials Science Engineering and/or Applied Mathematics. Sophia feels her years at North Hunterdon have been very formative. She has grown a lot in the past four years by maturing and learning a lot of new things about herself and about how the world works. And she still managed to have a lot of fun along the way.

October Athletes of the Month

TYLER ANDERSON

CLASS OF 2024

Tyler Anderson’s strongest traits on the football field are his leadership and resiliency. In a high-contact sport like football, the ability to get hit and continue to run or deliver a hit is not just helpful, but vital. In addition to that, serving as a captain has forced Tyler to develop his leadership skills. Leading by example and his ability to be a vocal leader have grown throughout this year. Tyler plays Quarterback on offense and Free Safety on defense. The coaching staff cannot be more grateful for having the opportunity to coach Tyler this year. They are thankful for all that he has done for the program. The coaches say Tyler is the epitome of what they want out of their student athletes. He is smart, tough, has a great attitude, and practices with a great effort. Tyler is a role model for not only North Hunterdon’s football program, but the entire student body. He has done an excellent job this year staying positive and keeping the team together. Tyler consistently tries to make those around him better, while working to set a good example. He takes criticism and coaching with maturity and takes accountability for mistakes even when those mistakes might not necessarily be his fault. This is Tyler’s tenth year playing football. He started in third grade with the Junior Lions and has been playing ever since. He is lucky to have played with a core group of guys from third grade through this year. Along with football, Tyler also plays baseball for the Lions. He played varsity shortstop since his sophomore year. Last year, the team made it to the Sectional Final and he has high expectations for this year. Tyler is also a member of the National Honor Society. His experience at North has been very positive thanks to the great teachers who challenged him and the friendships he has made during his four years at North. Next year, Tyler plans to continue playing football in college at the varsity level, but has not decided where he will attend school yet. Some colleges he is considering are Johns Hopkins, Carnegie Mellon, and Carleton College. Tyler plans to major in either Political Science or a business-related field.

EMILIA CSATARI

CLASS OF 2024

Senior Emilia Csatari has been playing soccer since she was four years old. Emilia’s strengths on the field are her ability to see the entire field, her general awareness of the game, one-on-one defending skills, and the physical nature of her play. Emilia plays the right back position on the field and enjoys being part of the team’s defensive unit. This year, the Lady Lions made it to the semi-final round of the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex County Tournament, where they earned the position of third seeded team. Emilia believes her coaches prepared the team well and they were laser focused on bringing home a championship this season. Their motto this year is “We/Me” and playing as a team has made them very successful. The Lions began competing in the Sectional State Tournament as a second seed and are excited about the opportunity to win a State Title. Emilia represented New Jersey on the 2006 G team in the US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program and her current club team is PDA-SCP. She is a member of the National Honor Society and the English Honor Society. Emilia is involved with the Unified Social Club Advisory Committee, the Interact Club, and Ski & Snowboard Club. She is looking forward to participating in the Unified Basketball program this winter. While soccer has always been Emilia’s primary sport, she has also participated on the North Hunterdon Lacrosse Team and on the Track and Field Team. When she is not playing soccer, Emilia is either working, or with her friends and family. In the summer, she spent her time working at the beach, training, and enjoying time with her friends. When Emilia was younger, she rode horses competitively until soccer and other sports began to take up most of her time. She hopes to return to riding someday. Next year, Emilia committed to play soccer at Salisbury University (Go Gulls!) and plans to pursue a career in Physical Therapy after majoring in Exercise Science. She is excited to have her little sister join the North Hunterdon Girls Soccer Team next year too. Emilia says Union Township and North Hunterdon High School have provided her with tremendous support that has allowed her to develop as a student and as an athlete. She has made close friendships that she values and is thankful for the guidance that her teachers and coaches have provided her these past four years.

NHTO's Fall Play

Harvey by Mary Chase

Elwood P. Dowd insists on including his friend Harvey in all of his sister Veta’s social gatherings. The trouble is, Harvey is an imaginary six-and-a-half-foot-tall rabbit. To avoid future embarrassment for her family – and especially for her daughter, Myrtle Mae – Veta decides to have Elwood committed to a sanitarium. At the sanitarium, a frantic Veta explains to the staff that her years of living with Elwood’s hallucination have caused her to see Harvey also, and so the doctors mistakenly commit her instead of her mild-mannered brother. The truth comes out, however; Veta is freed, and the search is on for Elwood, who eventually arrives at the sanitarium of his own volition, looking for Harvey. But it seems that Elwood and his invisible companion have had a strange influence on more than one of the doctors. Only at the end does Veta realize that maybe Harvey isn’t so bad after all.

  1. Log into your parent Aspen account
  2. Click on Page Directory on the left hand side
  3. Click on North Hunterdon Club Form

Winter Sports Registration 2023-2024

Aspen will be open to accept winter sports registration from October 16 through November 13, 2023. Winter sports offered at North Hunterdon High School are: Boys & Girls Basketball, Boys & Girls Fencing, Boys & Girls Wrestling, Boys & Girls Indoor Track, Boys & Girls Swimming, Cheerleading-Wrestling & Competition Squad, and Basketball Dance Team. NEW this season – Ice Hockey! Ice Hockey will be a joint team with Voorhees. Click here for winter sports start dates and tryout information. (Registration for Unified Bowling and Unified Basketball will open on or around November 1st.)

If your child is interested in participating in winter sports, please log into your parent Aspen account, click on Page Directory on left hand side, then click on North Sport. Fill out the Consent for Participation Form and Health History Update (these forms must be completed for each sports season your child participates). A valid physical form must be on file in the health office, meaning one that has not expired within 365 days of the sport’s start date.

There is a requirement for students to complete sports registration. Student-athletes must go into their student Aspen account, click on Page Directory, click on NH Student, and complete the Sport Wellness Acknowledgement Form. Students must watch the NJSIAA Opioid information video and read the Sudden Cardiac Death pamphlet from NJDOE, then click Yes for each and submit the form. These two items are in the parent Consent for Participation Form, but students also need to acknowledge that they have read/watched the items before they can participate in sports.

ImPact baseline test for concussions is required for sports and is valid for two years. Starting this year, the Impact test will be done online. Registered athletes who need Impact testing will be sent a personalized link via their school email to complete the Impact test at home before starting sports practice. Only new students or those with an expired test must complete the Impact test (primarily freshmen and juniors). If you are unsure if an Impact test is needed, run the Checklist Report at the bottom of the North Sports section in Aspen to show what requirements are missing.

If you have any questions about winter sports registration, please get in touch with the Athletics Office at (908) 713-4199, option 4.

Great to see students helping and supporting each other! Updates from our Fall Sports Teams!

Boys Soccer

Boys Soccer had a fantastic season, finishing 12-3-2 overall! They were the Skylands Conference Valley Division Champions with a 6-0-2 record in division. The team made it all the way to the finals of the Hunterdon Warren Sussex Tournament for the first time since 2014! Unfortunately they fell to #1 seed Hunterdon Central, but their exciting 2-1 OT win over the #2 seed Hackettstown in the semifinals to get them into the championship round is a game they will always remember!

Boys Soccer held their Pink-Out games on October 3rd with all teams sporting their pink jerseys and pink socks for their games vs Philipsburg! We brought home two wins (Varsity & Freshman) and a tie (JV) that day and also raised $302 for Hunterdon Regional Cancer Center through donations from our families & fans. The boys also enjoyed heading over to Just Chill after the games for some team bonding!

Girls Soccer

The NH Girls Soccer Team had their first annual NH Girls Soccer Shoot-A-Thon fundraiser on October 6th - it was a great success and a lot of fun! In addition, the team held its annual Car Wash fundraiser on Sunday, October 15th. The girls showed off their brand-new team rain jackets and had a great team bonding experience while raising money for their program.

On Saturday, October 21st, NHHS Girls Soccer scored two big wins! The team beat perennial rival Immaculata 4-3 AND raised money to support Breast Cancer Awareness in their annual Pink Game. Donations are being given to the Hunterdon Regional Cancer Center.

The NH Girls Varsity team competed in the semifinals of the H/W/S County Tournament but fell just short in a 2-1 loss to state ranked Hunterdon Central. The girls are the second seed in the sectional tournament and won their first round game in a 6-0 shutout against North Plainfield. They are poised to make a run at a Group 3 Sectional Championship.

Field Hockey

October has been a very busy month for the field hockey team. North Hunterdon Field Hockey became the Delaware Skyland Division Champions! The team celebrated their six seniors at Senior Night on October 12.

Junior, Brooke Cahill, organized the Pink Out bake sale fundraiser. The team supported the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation with a donation of $2,034. Bank of America donated $2 for every $1 donated in October, so our $678 donation turned into $2,034!!

The Varsity team won their first round of the State Tournament against Colts Neck 10-1. They will be playing Chatham in the Quarterfinal Round on 11/1.

Cheer

North Hunterdon Cheer has kicked off their competition season with an incredible start. On October 25th, the team competed at the Skylands Conference Championships at Bridgewater Raritan High School. North Cheer came home with the Skylands Championship Title, for the third year in a row. The team placed first in Traditional, and 2nd in Game Day.

The weekend prior, the team made its debut at Hunterdon Central's Cheer for the Cure competition. North Cheer placed 1st in Game Day and 2nd in Traditional. They followed this strong outing with incredible results the very next day at Phillipsburg High School. At this competition, North Cheer showed sensational performances, earning 1st place in both Game Day and Traditional. Impressively, North Cheer was also named Grand Champions in both, having earned the highest score across all size divisions.

Earlier this month, the North Cheer Seniors were acknowledged and celebrated on Senior Night! The Senior class of North Cheer has demonstrated spirit, talent, and commitment throughout their North Cheer journey. It was a special night acknowledging their accomplishments. This year, our Milk Can game t-shirts were student-designed! Congratulations to Sabrina May (front design) & Tyler Guidetti (back design) for having your designs chosen to be featured on the 48th Annual Milk Can Game t-shirts!

Throughout September, the Booster Club partnered with the NHHS Key Club to raise funds and collect donations for the Goryeb Children’s Hospital. With the generosity of our community, we were able to donate over $1,000 of items and and gift cards to support the Child Life Program - $735 in gift cards, $400 of items shipped from their Amazon wish list and $206.35 from our cancer awareness t-shirt sales. We are proud of all the teams that hosted Go Gold Games to help raise awareness and support our collection efforts! Remember- In our Pride, No One Fights Alone!

The Booster Club purchased a banner for the Athletic Department that was recently installed on the tennis courts. Showing our Lion Pride in a BIG way!

Thank you to all of our amazing Snack Shack volunteers from our North Hunterdon athletics teams!! We couldn’t run the Snack Shack at our home football games without all of you! Thanks for spending your Friday nights with us and making Friday Night Lights special for all of our students, families and fans from throughout the community!

Congratulations to our Fall athletes on all of their incredible accomplishments! Best of luck to our Fall teams who are still competing in the postseason state playoffs! And good luck to all of our Winter athletes who will be beginning their seasons later this month!
