OUR MISSION:

To Enrich the Health and Lives

of the People We Serve

Let’s all give a huge shout-out to Betty Merriman who recently passed her Kansas Apprenticeship in Coding Program through the Kansas Works Apprenticeship Program. She is the VERY first to complete the coding apprenticeship program in Kansas.

Betty began taking classes online in August 2023. CHCS sponsored Betty to participate in the Coding Program which allowed her to work while earning her certification. The program consisted of Betty completing 22 course chapters with tests after each. She also passed two course finals and then sat for the 5-hour Certified Professional Coding exam on August 17, 2024!

“I am very thankful CHCS gave me the opportunity to complete this program even though at times I wondered if I would get through it,” Betty said. “It was very hard to find the time to study and complete each chapter’s coursework and the test. I would come in early to work in order to have time to study at night. I have a whole new respect for those who attend these classes in person or have other classes to prepare for or have a family at home.”

“I am so proud of Betty and her commitment to this program,” said Alycea Lakin, Health Information Manager. “I know this was not easy for her but she continued to work hard and completed the challenge. She has been a great asset to CHCS.”

About Apprenticeships

There is a wide array of opportunities for small & large employers, associations, organizations, community and technical colleges, and career seekers. The Kansas Office of Registered Apprenticeship supports apprenticeships across multiple industries to benefit employers and career seekers ensuring occupational proficiency.

Clinics Recognized for the 7th Consecutive Year

For the seventh consecutive year, our clinics located have been recognized as Patient Centered Medical Homes (PCMH).

PCMH is not a physical "home", but a healthcare delivery model that puts patients at the forefront of care. PCMHs build better relationships between patients and their clinical care teams.  According to the National Council for Quality Assurance (NCQA), PCMHs improve quality and the patient experience, increase staff satisfaction and help to reduce healthcare costs. Practices that earn PCMH recognitions have made a commitment to continuous quality improvement and a patient-centered approach to care.

The annual PCMH review and certification process includes data collection and providing preventative education and resources to promote improved physical and mental health in the communities we serve.  In 2023, CHCS was above the Centers for Medicare Services average scoring in all areas, Colorectal Cancer Screening, Breast Cancer Screening, Influenza and Pneumonia Vaccines, Documentation of Medication, Diabetes Poor Control and Appropriate Testing for Children with Pharyngitis.

“I applaud all of our clinic staff for their commitment to the PCMH model and for their dedication to improving the health and lives of our patients, said Manda Thompson, Quality Specialist and PCMH Coordinator. Their efforts continue set us apart and drive our success with quality measures.”

Congratulations to all our clinic staff!

These posters were created as a result of workplace injuries which occurred at CHCS. We want to keep staff as safe as possible, especially when using the appropriate PPE can prevent injury!
