Standing Together To Make a Difference in Breast Cancer Awareness in Kenosha, Racine, and Walworth Counties |
In October, the color pink symbolizes the global fight against breast cancer, a disease affecting 1 in 8 women. Women aged 40 to 44 have the option for annual breast cancer screening with mammograms. Kenosha Community Health Center (KCHC) and Pillar Health emphasize the importance of community support in facing breast cancer. Early detection and understanding family history are crucial given the widespread concern about breast cancer among women worldwide.
We encourage self-examinations and regular screenings for early breast disease detection. This resource guide proves information on self-examinations, screenings, and adopting a healthy lifestyle.

During Hispanic Heritage Month, we joined the Flip the Script campaign by empowering Hispanic healthcare stars and spotlighted Angelina Tovar, a dental assistant.
She is a Latina woman, the daughter of a Mexican widow, and her life began with very humble beginnings. Greg Pawell and Jodi Allen from Pillar Health/KCHC recently attended the Sharing Center, Inc. 2023 Community Networking Breakfast. This event provided an outstanding opportunity to share information about the medical, dental, and mental health services available to Kenosha County residents living west of I-94.
During the breakfast, they connected with organizations in need of these services, including representatives from local churches and Trevor-Wilmot Consolidated Grade School District. The presentations delivered by Sharon Pomaville, Director of The Sharing Center, her staff, and the special guest Zeke from the Racine Kenosha Community Action Agency were highly informative. The Sharing Center is a true gem in the community, offering vital services, resources, and assistance to help people achieve self-sustainability.

On Thursday, 9/28, we were honored to host Ms. Pam Travis, Wisconsin Research Specialist for US Senator Ron Johnson, at Pillar Health. Ms. Travis graciously took the time to tour our state-of-the-art facility and engage in insightful discussions with our CEO, Dr. Mary Ouimet, and Project Manager, Greg Pawell.
Our dialogue centered around the vital role Kenosha Community Health Center plays in serving the tri-county population, the transformative journey of KCHC leading to the inception of Pillar Health, and the pivotal role of the FQHC in the modern healthcare delivery model.
We are grateful for the opportunity to share our vision and commitment to healthcare
