Planning

On Thursday, Mar. 10, regional planner Autumn Scott attended the 2023 Maine-New Hampshire Climate Networks Exchange hosted by the NH Coastal Adaptation Workgroup (CAW) and ME Climate Change Adaptation Providers Network (CCAP), in conjunction with the Northeast Safe and Thriving for All (NEST) project. *

The event, intended to foster a network prepared for and responsive to climate migration, took place in South Portland. Presentations and discussions allowed professionals in housing; agriculture, conservation, and forestry; community development; higher education; and coastal and climate research to engage attendees on the important topic of climate migration.

Attendees also participated in a world café exercise where they were given two scenarios (one about population decrease due to climate migration and one about population increase) and asked to consider the role that a changing climate plays, who is impacted and in what ways, what challenges and opportunities arise, and what a prepared community looks like.

This event is intended to be part of a series, so stay tuned in to CAW for updates or future information on this topic.

Transportation

As early as last week Stephen Geis, planning technician, and Mark Davie, regional planner, began preparations for the 2023 data collection season.

Prior to receiving the list of required traffic counts from the NH Department of Transportation (NHDOT), Strafford Regional Planning Commission staff have started to accept requests for additional data collection needs, including supplemental counts, bicycle and pedestrian counts, Road Surface Management System (Pavement Preservation Plans) assessments, and sidewalk assessments for ADA compliance.  These services are provided at no additional cost for dues paying municipalities.

The data collection team notes that bike/ped counters only work at specific locations like sidewalks and trails, and that they can review location feasibility as requests come in.

Please direct requests to sgeis@strafford.org for the 2023 data collection season. To view locations from the 2022 season view SRPC's dashboard.
