Dear Miramonte Community, | |
As Halloween approaches, I wanted to encourage you to talk to your children about their health and safety at Halloween parties and other off-campus events over the next week. Our school district and the Walamorinda area has seen an uptick in issues at house parties over the last couple years, so a few things to think about and discuss with your children:
-
High school students across the country are increasingly experimenting with fentanyl, and drugs that may be laced with fentanyl. We also know that underage drinking increases at parties during Halloween and other upcoming holidays.
- On Halloween it is especially important for teens to drive and ride safely, and have a group plan to travel safely to and from events. Local police will be actively patrolling streets for dangerous drivers.
- Parents can be held liable and accountable for incidents that occur at their homes. This has been proven true in courts across the country every year.
Finally, we are encouraging all students to dress up next Thursday (our staff will be joining in on the fun as well!), and have shared with them the Halloween Costume Guidelines so we can have an extremely fun and positive day. Have a wonderful weekend and GO MATS!

I love this time of year and hope everyone is enjoying some seasonal fun- maybe helping out at the elementary fall festivals and reminiscing!
Don’t forget to catch the Miramonte student plays this weekend. It’s a wonderful opportunity to support our talented students and enjoy some fantastic performances.
Please plan to join us for our next Parent Club meeting on Wednesday, November 13, at 11:30 a.m. in the Student Union. We will dive into the latest Challenge Success data, offering insights into student well-being and engagement at Miramonte. Our principal will present key findings from the recent survey, highlighting areas of growth and concern as we work together to support a balanced and healthy school experience.
Additionally, students will share their own research on student burnout, shedding light on the pressures they face and potential solutions for reducing stress and promoting resilience. This is a unique opportunity to hear directly from students and engage in meaningful discussion about how we can collaborate to create a healthier, more supportive environment for all.
We look forward to your participation in this vital conversation!
Stay up to date with all Parents' Club activities by visiting our website. As always, please reach out with any questions or concerns.
Warmly,
Christina Linezo

Ninth-Grade Brigade!
Last spring, Miramonte administrators, teachers, and counselors decided they wanted to work together to improve the way incoming ninth grade students are welcomed to our school. They wanted to expand the work of the Link Crew to create a greater sense of belonging and cohesion amongst Miramonte’s newest students. The Ninth-Grade Brigade was developed to achieve this goal and the funds for this project were added to the ONE-Miramonte budget to support this important work.
The Ninth-Grade Brigade teachers include Ellen Conners, Kelly Ginocchio, Brian Henderson, Amy Krochmal, Kristen Plant, Cassi Porter, Lauren Song, Katie Watson, Colleen Williams, and Susan Williams.
Here’s how Ms. Cassi Porter describes what the Ninth Grade Brigade has in store for the year:
The goals of the Ninth-Grade Brigade are to create programming for the 9th-grade class that fosters connection to peers, Miramonte, and the community, while having some fun while we do it! We have activities/events/programming planned every month for the rest of the year that focus on connection, team building, and experiencing all that Miramonte has to offer. This month, we are hosting The VPA Experience which will allow each 9th grader to spend time in each VPA class offered at Miramonte and experience what the program is like.
So far we have increased the Link Crew Leader connection with their group of 9th graders through Academy activities and hosted a Family Style Potluck a few weeks back. The potluck tied directly into the book all the 9th graders read in their English class, where students brought food that represented their culture and heritage to share with their Link Crew groups. At the event, we had a Vietnamese dish prepared by the cafeteria for lunch, games and activities that correlated with the book, including a crab hunt! The author of the book was able to attend and the students spent time asking him questions about the book and his culture. It was an incredible day!
When you give to ONE-Miramonte, the funds you contribute allow our teachers and administration the flexibility to find creative ways to improve the student experience at Miramonte. Donations to ONE-Miramonte support every student, every teacher, and every class. Because you give, our newest students have the opportunity to connect more deeply with peers and with their school, both of which are positively correlated with school engagement. Thank you, ONE-Miramonte donors!

Every year, October is an incredibly busy time in Wellness. This year is no exception! The number of student’s dropping in for cool down breaks is up, we’ve had new referrals every day, and there has been an increase in students dropping in asking to speak with a Wellness counselor. Our Wellness support counselors are here for your students every day, and the Center is open and available from 7:30am to 4:00pm for students who just need a quiet place to take a break.
This week in addition to Wellness regular services, students had the opportunity to have a creative outlet at lunch with tile painting and piano playing, checkout Planned Parenthood resources, and spend time with our 3 furry friends on Friday.
Have a great weekend Matador families!

Counselors will be starting four year plans with first year students in the coming weeks! This is an exciting time for students to begin thinking about what they would like their next three years to look like and for us to get to know students a little bit more!
Seniors
- If your senior is applying to a college that requires an official transcript, they should make the request via MaiaLearning.
- The last day to request transcripts for a November 1 deadline is Monday October 28.
- Consider attending the Academy college application workshops in the College and Career Center. Students can sign up using TeachMore.
Did your student sign up for a club on Club Day? Ask them if they have attended any meetings yet! We encourage all of our Matadors to engage with their community here on campus.

What is Pantomime?
Welcome to the wild and wacky world of Pantomime, where classic stories meet modern pop culture, and actors are free to play roles that are not restricted based on gender. The acting style is exaggerated and everything, including the props, is larger than life. This British tradition dates back to the 1700s and is based on the Italian theatre form of commedia dell’arte. Today, British families of all ages, typically around Christmas, see their local panto in villages or community centers or produced professionally on London’s West End. Integrating audience participation, popular music, and some raunchy innuendo, there is something for everyone when you go see the panto! We are happy to share this tradition and genre with Miramonte, and we hope you enjoy it. Cheers!
