A few weeks ago, James and Mandey had the honor of assisting in planning and attending a Wounded Vets Fishing Event on Lake Lanier. Celebrating and honoring our vets is an ongoing passion for James.
This year, the group included South Vietnamese men and women who fought alongside our military in Vietnam. In attendance was Dick Calliouet, a Veteran F4 pilot whose plane was shot down over enemy territory. His parachute was caught up atop a tree for 18 hours. Special Forces troops were sent via helicopter to rescue him. He was able to share his story with the group and be honored for his bravery and patriotism. Dick is currently the SCI VP of the Wounded Vet Program.
Tommy Bagwell, Chairman Of The Board at American Proteins, donates the use of his incredible houseboat each year to cater a delectable dinner and take the vets on a cruise after fishing on Lake Lanier. After dinner, an awards ceremony was held to recognize the gracious boat captains who donated their time to take vets fishing. The wounded vets, themselves, also received prizes for their participation in the event.
It was an incredible event, with 47 wounded vets attending.
