PARP WEEK
AT ROSLYN ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS
Roslyn Elementary Schools participated in a fun week of reading activities in celebration of Pick A Reading Partner (PARP) Week!
For the very first time, Heights School held its own PARP Week! On Thursday, January 26, 2023, districtwide administrators were invited to read aloud, I Can Do Hard Things to the kindergarten and first grade classes.
Author and poet Darren Sardelli visited Harbor Hill Elementary School to give a presentation to all grades on Tuesday, January 24th. It was one of several fun activities planned for PARP Week. The author also paid a visit to East Hills Elementary School on Wednesday, January 25th.
On Tuesday, January 24, 2023 East Hills Elementary School welcomed guest readers into their classrooms to read aloud Margaret and the Moon to their students.
LUNAR NEW YEAR CELEBRATIONS
The Roslyn High School Asian Cultural Exchange Club (ACE) hosted a Lunar New Year celebration on Friday evening, January 20th, 2023, at Roslyn High School. The event featured a variety of entertaining performances that included Chinese yo yo, singing and rapping, a fashion show, musical instruments, and even a lion dance! The entertainment was performed by students throughout the district, as well as a professional face changing master performing the traditional art. 
Roslyn Middle School welcomed in the Year of the Rabbit on Friday, January 20, 2023 with a wide buffet of Asian cuisine. Students also had the opportunity to try character painting and lantern making.
East Hills Elementary School students made lanterns, red envelopes, and dragons, and were visited by class mothers who arrived dressed in colorful native clothing to teach them about the traditions surrounding Lunar New Year. 
Harbor Hill Elementary School students in Ms. Falcone’s second grade class were delighted by a surprise visit from a class mother. Students read, sang songs, learned a little bit of Mandarin, played with traditional puppets, and made crafts together.
HEIGHTS SCHOOL
Heights continued their annual tradition of hosting a Peace March in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Friday, January 13, 2023. Carrying hand-crafted messages of peace, the students marched through the hallways to assemble in the gym, where they were treated to an assembly about the legacy of Dr. King.
Students, faculty, and staff took a time machine back to the 1980’s to commemorate the 80th day of school on January 11, 2023 at Heights School. Classrooms were filled with people wearing neon colors, headbands, leg warmers, and glittery gloves! Principal Mary Wood wore a colorful outfit that was a throwback to the Partridge Family. 
EAST HILLS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
East Hills students celebrated the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a variety of unique activities, inspired by the civil rights leader's’ hopes and dreams for the world.
East Hills Elementary School kicked off a Kindness Challenge for students and staff. The challenges include activities such as thanking a teaching assistant and/or a custodian for their hard work, doing something nice, being a problem solver, or giving someone a compliment. Each time a person completes a challenge, they write their name on a series of posters that indicate the suggested acts of kindness.
HARBOR HILL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Ms. Hintermeister and Ms. Palladino's Harbor Hill Elementary students joined together to honor and learn about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Each buddy partnership came up with their own special and unique dream to share with everyone.  

First grade students from Heights and Harbor Hill came together for a fun-filled night of math activities, including: measuring snowmen, weighing marshmallows, creating with pattern blocks, and participating in a winter wonderland math trail.
ROSLYN MIDDLE SCHOOL
The Roslyn Counseling Department met individually with 8th grade Roslyn Middle School students on January 23rd and 24th to help them select their main and elective courses for 9th grade. Roslyn offers an amazing 56 electives; counselors were excited to help students choose the courses that best suited their needs and interests.

ROSLYN SENIOR MAXX YUNG NAMED
REGENERON 2023 SCHOLAR HONOREE
Roslyn High School senior Maxx Yung is one of 300 Scholar Honorees to be named in the Regeneron Science Talent Search 2023 Competition—the nation’s oldest and most prestigious science and math competition for high school seniors. The competition provides students with a national stage to present original research and celebrates the hard work and novel discoveries of young scientists who are bringing a fresh perspective to significant global challenges. All 300 scholars will be awarded $2,000 each and their schools will be awarded $2,000 for each enrolled scholar.
ROSLYN HIGH SCHOOL HOSTS WINTER PEP RALLY
Roslyn High School hosted its first-ever Winter Pep Rally on Friday, January 6, 2023 in the main gym. The RHS Pep Band kicked off the event with some talented playing. From there, it was a schoolwide celebration of varsity and junior varsity sports, including: basketball, gymnastics, wrestling, bowling, fencing, swimming, and track. The event wrapped up with a 3-point competition by grade level, with students competing against several teachers and staff members.
“We thought a winter pep rally would be a great opportunity to celebrate our school spirit and provide recognition to our high school athletes,” said Michael Brostowski, Director of Health, Physical Education, and Athletics. “It succeeded in being a fun and inspiring event that allowed all our student-athletes to be in the spotlight and show their Bulldog pride!”
On Tuesday, January 17, 2023, the varsity boys winter track team earned the title of Conference Champions, earning a score of 136!
