Cornwall Public Library Newsletter - November 2023

From the Director's Desk...

November is the month that contains Thanksgiving, which marks the start of the hectic holiday season. Even though it can be stressful, I've always liked taking the time to be thankful for things that matter: family, a roof over my head, a good job, friends, and living in this particular country where one is free to think for themselves, are a few of the things that come to mind. I'm also thankful that I work in such a great place, you know what I mean? The staff is wonderful and even though we haven't been in our own building for a while due to a construction project, it's still a great place to work. Come on out to some of our programs and see for yourself. A good library is definitely something to be thankful for!

Construction Update - Reopening November 28

We are pleased to tentatively announce the anticipated reopening of the library building on Tuesday, November 28. As we did in August, we plan to completely close our Munger Cottage operations beginning on Monday, November 20 so that we can move technology and materials back to the library. Of course, these dates are subject to change given the sometimes unpredictable nature of construction. Continue to check our website and social media for the latest information.

What's taking so long? The delay is due to two additional projects that were added to the scope of the original work - entry & hallway flooring and barrel ceiling joint repair. Because the entire project is being done using NYS grant money, additional approvals were required by the state, all pushing our re-opening date back. We know how frustrating delays are; but we also know the importance of getting the work done right the first time around. Thanks for your steady patience!

We continue to provide basic circulation services from Munger Cottage (40 Munger Drive). Simply order your materials from other RCLS libraries and pick up at Munger. Not sure how to do that? Just give us a call at 845-534-8282 and we can help. Unfortunately, no computers, printing, copying or faxing are available at our temporary location.

If you'd like to browse a library collection, your Cornwall card is welcome at 47 member libraries in the RCLS system.*

*West Point residents with a Cornwall Local Access card will need to continue ordering their materials for pick-up at our satellite location during our construction closure. Please contact the CPL at 845-534-8282 and ask for Ellen with any questions or concerns about this policy.
