Ms. Robbin Trotter is preparing to lead us officially as the Interim Principal starting in January. Please stop by the Meet & Greet on Tuesday, December 5th for a chance to get to know her better. We will provide more opportunities for you to do so in the coming weeks.

We've got a lot of great resources and information in today's newsletter below, so please read all the way through. Have a great weekend!

Sincerely,

FINAL DAY TO TAKE THE FAMILY SURVEY

The DPS “Your Voice/Tu Voz” Family Survey window has been extended until Friday, Dec. 1. Families can access the survey link by going to dpsk12.org/survey/. As a reminder, families who complete their survey between now and Dec. 1 will be eligible for a gift card giveaway! Questions take less than 10 minutes to complete. Responses to the survey are anonymous and serve to inform decisions on how we can better serve our DPS community.

As a reminder, unlike previous years, DPS will administer the survey to families once in the fall and will administer it to students once in the spring. DPS conducted two surveys in May 2023 to understand the perceptions of parents, guardians and students. Click here for a high-level overview of DPS results on key measures.

Questions? Please refer to the Survey FAQs for more information.

GIFTS FOR TEAM STEDMAN

Dear Stedman Families,

Please help us shower our amazing staff with love this holiday season! If you're able, donate gift cards in small amounts (around $10 each) for gifting to everyone who works at Stedman - we do this to spread the love more equitably and would love your support in making sure everyone feels appreciated. Cards to restaurants & coffee shops, local & minority-owned businesses, and Stedman supporters work especially well.

Bring your donations to the office by December 13th, and we'll make sure your support reaches everyone who works at the school. Thank you, and Happy Holidays!

Your Stedman PTA

Estimadas familias Stedman,

¡Gracias y felices fiestas!

December 3rd is International Day of Persons with Disabilities

International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) is a day that is celebrated every year on 3 December. The day is about promoting the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities at every level of society and development, and to raise awareness of the situation of persons with disabilities in all aspects of political, social, economic, and cultural life.

What is IDPD for?

  • Celebration – to recognize and value the diversity of our global community, and to cherish the role we all play, regardless of our abilities;
  • Learning – to understand and learn from the experiences of people with living with a disability;
  • It is a day for optimism – to look towards the future and the creation of a world where a person is not characterized by their disabilities, but by their abilities;
  • Action – where all people, organizations, agencies and charities not only show their support for International Day of People with Disabilities, but take on a commitment to create a world characterized by equal human rights.

Here and here are terrific lists for books featuring characters with disabilities (both physical and academic).

This link has a list of tips for being an ally for people in marginalized groups, which includes those with a disability.
