SHARE:
Governor Pritzker Assembly

Hinsdale Central is excited to share that Governor JB Pritzker has accepted our Student Liberal Association’s invitation to come to our school and speak to our students and staff about civic engagement and responsibility. Although the date and time of the governor’s visit are still being determined, the tentative plan is for him to participate in a brief school assembly (no more than 30 minutes) sometime during the week of May 15. We will provide the final details for this event as soon as they are available.

We are looking forward to having a sitting governor visit Central and have taken steps through the Student Liberal Association to ensure that this is a non-partisan event that is focused on the topic of civics. With that said, we understand and appreciate that members of our school community may have political beliefs, philosophies and ideologies that differ from those of Mr. Pritzker. As part of our regular procedures for assemblies, students will have the chance to opt out of attending. Those who do not want to take part in this event will be asked to please communicate their preference to their teacher after we determine when the assembly will take place. Students who opt out will report to the student cafeteria for a supervised study hall.

Please note that this event will be limited to Hinsdale Central students and staff. In addition, Grant Street may be closed for a portion of the school day in conjunction with the security protocols for the governor’s visit, which are being coordinated and managed by the Illinois State Police.

Anyone who has questions about the assembly is encouraged to contact Principal Walsh at wwalsh@hinsdale86.org. In the meantime, we want to thank our Student Liberal Association for its hard work in securing this unique opportunity for our school community.
Mental Health Resources

As we move towards the end of the school year, please remember mental health resources are available on the school website.

Social Work Department-everything from community mental health organizations to helpful articles and resources including a helpful virtual office that offers coping strategies and self-care tools.

Hinsdale Central PTO Parent List-Angie's List style resource where parents may read and anonymously write positive reviews regarding local support services that have been successful in handling childhood developmental, emotional, learning and health issues.

FAFSA Completion

This is a reminder to all seniors that you are required to file the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) or complete a FAFAS Non-Participation Form in order to graduate. If you are choosing to complete the non-participation form, please return it to your counselor.
DuPage County Health Alert

Please see the attached information (Smart Alert and Educational Flyer) on Xylazine. Guidance from the DuPage Health Department is to use Narcan or naloxone if a drug overdose is suspected. The addition of Xylazine to the opioid drug supply increases the risk of overdose. Narcan or naloxone will help with the opioid part of the overdose. The flyer does a nice job of addressing this issue and others on the health impacts of Xylazine. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to Mila Tsagalis, Director of Community Initiatives at the DuPage County Health Department.
