525,600 Minutes: How Do You Measure a Year?

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: rejoice!" (Philippians 4:4)

As the first month of 2025 comes to an end, we find ourselves in the grip of some of the coldest temperatures in recent memory. The brisk winds, frosty air, and lingering snow have certainly made their presence known. Yet, even in these grey and wintry days, our hearts are warmed by the incredible impact we achieved together in 2024 and the neighbors we are privileged to serve.

At its core, Living Stones is a three-fold ministry: rescuing surplus food that would otherwise be wasted, transforming it into nourishing meals, and fostering a welcoming space where meals become moments of fellowship and connection. But our work extends beyond the dinner table. Through My Monday Thing!, the dedication of our Community Outreach Coordinator, the power of prayer, and our monthly lunches supporting individuals facing substance-use disorder, we continue to serve our neighbors in profound and meaningful ways. This past year reaffirmed the vital role we play in our community. Thanks to your unwavering support, we celebrate all that has been accomplished while recognizing the ongoing needs that still exist.

From January to December, Living Stones rescued over 10,000 pounds of food—food that could have ended up in a landfill but instead nourished 3,171 individuals. Beyond providing immediate meals, we ensured that many of our neighbors had additional food to take home for the week. Food has always been at the heart of our mission, not only addressing food insecurity but also creating a space where friendships and community bonds are formed. For many, that sense of connection is just as vital as the meal itself.

Our My Monday Thing! program continues to meet essential needs, providing access to a free clothing boutique, crafts, and haircuts. In 2024:

  • Our clothing closet served 1,239 individuals, distributing 4,676 clothing items.
  • 267 people received free haircuts from our licensed stylists who graciously volunteer their talents
  • 308 individuals participated in craft activities, finding joy and creativity in the process.
  • Our Community Health Worker managed 50 cases, connecting our neighbors with crucial basic needs and healthcare services that they otherwise might not have been able to access or navigate.
  • Recently, we began offering personal care and hygiene products, distributing 919 items to those in need in just three short months.

Each of these numbers represents a life touched, a need met, and a reminder of the tangible difference we are making together. More than anything, our hope is that, through this work, we are able to make the love of Christ real and tangible to each of them.

None of this would be possible without each of you. Whether you have prayed for our ministry and neighbors, volunteered your time, or supported us financially, you have played a vital role in the success of Living Stones. Thank you!

Living Stones fosters the cultivation of relationships with neighbors who join us for meals. As relationships develop and deepen, Living Stones volunteers come alongside those individuals and families to assist them in navigating the challenges in their lives and encourage them to find hope in Christ as they learn to trust Him.
