Dear Miramonte Community,
As we approach Thanksgiving Break, I want to take a moment to express my gratitude for the incredible support you give to our staff and school community. Whether through the hours you volunteer, the financial contributions you make, or the encouragement you provide, your efforts allow our students to thrive in and out of the classroom. On behalf of our entire staff, thank you for all you do—both at home and here at school—to create a positive and enriching environment for everyone.
If you and your child(ren) are looking for a meaningful way to show appreciation to a staff member this season, I encourage you to consider writing a note or sending an email of thanks. Educators across the country often face challenging and critical messages, so a kind word from you or your student can have a profound impact in lifting their spirits and affirming their hard work.
A few details to know as we head into the break:
AUHSD Homework Policy
Summer Break, Thanksgiving Break, Winter Break, and Spring Break are designed to be homework free. Per AUHSD Board Policy, students will not be required to complete schoolwork during these times, except for long-term projects that may span breaks or multiple weekends.
Exam Jams and Finals
Exam Jams will take place December 11-13, the week before Finals. Exam Jams are extra study sessions set up by teachers and held after school for all students. They offer valuable opportunities to collaborate with peers and teachers in preparation for 1st Semester Finals.
Winter Athletic PE Contracts – Due Today (11/22)
A reminder that Winter Athletic PE contracts must be submitted today. Please have your child turn in their contract to the Counseling Office and email their counselor and Mr. Grigsby with any questions or concerns.
Thank you once again for your partnership and dedication to our school. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving Break, and as always, Go Mats!
P.S. Our football team is hosting a big NCS semifinal game tonight at 7:00 p.m. against Benicia! While it’s shaping up to be a rainy evening, our boys would love to see you and your families there. Grab your umbrellas and come enjoy some Friday Night Lights here at Miramonte!

Happy Friday Miramonte Families,
I hope everyone enjoys Thanksgiving break and your celebrations are filled with lots of yummy food to fill your bellies, and more importantly, all the ‘moments' to fill your hearts. Cherish your loved ones, soak in the laughter, and savor the times that become the priceless memories we hold onto forever.
When we return, we'll quickly gear up for finals—a busy time for students, teachers, and families alike. We encourage everyone to take full advantage of this downtime to rest and reset. A little self-care now can go a long way in helping us all approach the final stretch of the semester with focus and energy.
Help our Matadors stay nourished during the after-school Fall Exam Jams December 11-13, 2024 by donating snacks and/or drinks. For those new to MHS, Fall Exam Jams are optional after-school study sessions that some teachers offer to students the week before finals. Here is the Fall 2024 Exam Jam Schedule.
If you would like to donate, please order from this Amazon Exam Jams wish list for **delivery** by Friday, December 6, 2024. Items ordered through the Amazon wish list will be shipped directly to Parents’ Club Hospitality Coordinator Catherine Johnson in advance of Exam Jams. Please double-check that your Amazon account does not default delivery to your home address! The Hospitality Coordinators will package up all the treats and deliver them to MHS.
Thank you for all you do to support our students and our Miramonte community.
Stay up to date with all Parents' Club activities by visiting our website. As always, please reach out with any questions or concerns.
Warmly,
Christina Linezo

Counselors will continue four year plans with first year students on December 2! This is an exciting time for students to begin thinking about what they would like their next three years to look like and for us to get to know students a little bit more!
Seniors
- Have a college application deadline coming up? Don’t wait until the due date to hit submit! Application portals are notorious for experiencing problems on due dates, and technology issues are rarely viewed as an excuse for not having an application in on time by colleges.
- Please keep in mind that the counseling office is closed during the upcoming break and no one will be available to send transcripts.
- If your senior is applying to a college that requires an official transcript, they should make the request via MaiaLearning.
-
If your student has an application deadline in January, the final day to order an initial transcript is Wednesday, December 18.
- Consider attending the Academy college application workshops in the College and Career Center. Students can sign up using TeachMore.
-
As Early Decision and Early Action decisions begin to roll out, please read and share this article from Tulane University’s Director of Admission on reducing admission anxiety.
Have a safe and restful break!

For many, November is a time for giving thanks, but practicing gratitude year-round
offers mental and physical benefits. Studies show that a daily gratitude practice can improve sleep, boost mood, and reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety. According to Harvard Medical School’s Journal of Health, “gratitude helps people feel more positive emotions, relish good experiences, improve their health, deal with adversity, and build strong relationships.”
Here are some easy ways to incorporate gratitude into your and your teen’s life:
- Add expressing your gratitude to your daily routine! Share what you’re grateful for during family meals or other daily routines, like driving to school or saying Goodnight.
- Write down your gratitude! You can write down 1-3 things you are grateful for each day in a shared space like a whiteboard in the kitchen
- Create a gratitude jar! Encourage everyone to write down moments, people, or things they’re thankful for on small pieces of paper and deposit them in a jar. At the end of the month, gather together to read them aloud.
~Chelsea Wetherell, Wellness Intern 23/24
The Wellness Center staff wish all Miramonte families a gratitude and peace filled November break!
