El Sol Newsletter

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Our new building has been under construction at the factory for the past four months, and we are now finalizing the onsite work schedule. I hope to provide more detailed updates before we leave for the Thanksgiving holiday. 

In preparation for the upcoming onsite work, we have started dismantling the playground, demolishing concrete, and arranging for the removal of the existing portables (date to be determined).

Several years ago, a former El Sol volunteer generously donated the beautiful purple tree and the surrounding teak bench near the playground. We’ve been exploring options to relocate the tree, gathering landscaping bids to ensure its survival. Unfortunately, the most recent bid was prohibitively expensive and did not guarantee the tree's survival. After careful consideration, we've determined that removing the tree and planting a new one in our new space is the most feasible and sustainable choice. 

We recognize the importance of the tree to our community and want to provide an opportunity for students to honor it before its removal. Teachers will work with their classes to create meaningful ways to say goodbye to the tree and share plans for planting a new one in our improved space.

Nuestro nuevo edificio ha estado en construcción en la fábrica durante los últimos cuatro meses y ahora estamos finalizando el cronograma de trabajo en el lugar. Espero brindar actualizaciones más detalladas antes de que nos vayamos para el feriado de Acción de Gracias.

En preparación para el próximo trabajo en el lugar, hemos comenzado a desmantelar el patio de juegos, demoler el concreto y organizar la remoción de los salones portátiles existentes (fecha a determinar).

Hace varios años, un antiguo voluntario de El Sol donó generosamente el hermoso árbol violeta y el banco de teca que lo rodea cerca del patio de juegos. Hemos estado explorando opciones para reubicar el árbol, reuniendo ofertas de paisajismo para asegurar su supervivencia. Desafortunadamente, la oferta más reciente fue prohibitivamente cara y no garantizó la supervivencia del árbol. Después de una cuidadosa consideración, hemos determinado que quitar el árbol y plantar uno nuevo en nuestro nuevo espacio es la opción más factible y sustentable.

Reconocemos la importancia del árbol para nuestra comunidad y queremos brindarles a los estudiantes la oportunidad de honrarlo antes de quitarlo. Los maestros trabajarán con sus clases para crear formas significativas de despedirse del árbol y compartir planes para plantar uno nuevo en nuestro espacio mejorado.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We are thrilled to share the success of our recent Book Fair, and it’s all thanks to your incredible support!

Together, we raised over $8,000 in scholastic dollars. We put over $2,000 worth of new books into our school libraries. Each of our amazing teachers received five free books to enrich their classrooms, and even our wonderful counselor, Gio, was able to add some valuable resources to their collection.

Your generosity continues to inspire a love for reading in our students and ensures they have access to stories and knowledge that will shape their futures.

Dear Parents,

The School has approximately 100 used Lenovo Laptops to distribute to students who need Laptops to complete their homework and/or schoolwork at home.

You can request one of the Laptops for your child by completing the Technology Survey Form located in PowerSchool.

If your child already has a working Laptop to complete his/her schoolwork at home, please either do not fill out the form, or mark the option “My child has a fully functioning Computer …” As the number of Laptops is limited we will distribute them according with the order of the requests received, “First Come, First Served”.

La Escuela cuenta con aproximadamente 100 computadoras portátiles Lenovo usadas para distribuir a los estudiantes que necesitan computadoras portátiles para completar sus tareas y/o trabajos escolares en casa.

Puede solicitar una de las computadoras portátiles para su hijo completando el formulario de encuesta de tecnología que se encuentra en PowerSchool.

Si su hijo ya tiene una computadora portátil que funciona para completar sus tareas escolares en casa, no complete el formulario o marque la opción "Mi hijo tiene una computadora que funciona completamente ..." Drop off and Pick up Instructions

Drive Slowly while traveling on Halesworth.

Valet Dashboard Name Tag

• Please write your 1) child’s first name, 2) last name, 3) teacher and 4) grade
• Place the paper in your car dashboard during pick up. This will help our staff know who you are picking up.

Siblings pick up

• Please pick up when the last sibling gets out of school so you don’t block the valet line. If you arrive early, you will be asked to come back until your child is out. 
• If you have children on both sides - Pick up on the elementary side and have your child in the middle school cross the street to meet the youngest sibling in the elementary side. The child in the middle school side will need a walking pass located in our parent portal (powerschool). 
• Follow the valet route as outlined on the attached map

Do not park or leave your car in the valet line during drop off and pick up times

Do not allow your child to exit from the street side of the car

Follow the direction of the staff who are outside on the valet and most of all be respectful and patient

Be respectful of other drivers, everyone is in a hurry

Avoid frustration by leaving a little earlier and giving yourself time

Follow all traffic and parking signs

The HEEF Scholarship Program offers competitive academic scholarships for OC high school seniors and community college transfer students, as well as providing scholarships for OC college graduates to attend law school.

HEEF is a collaborative of more than 30 funding partners passionate about helping first generation college students. The HEEF Scholarship program offers individual scholarship awards of $2,500 - $5,000 across multiple areas of interest.
