Last week, South Suburban Mayors and Managers Association partnered with the Mainstreet Organization of Realtors in a symposium designed to showcase new strategies and best practices for community redevelopment which drew over a hundred participants. SSMMA’s Housing and Community Development Collaborative Chairwoman Mayor Jada D. Curry (Lynwood, IL) spoke on behalf of our Association’s municipalities which represent over 700,000 residents and more than 20,000 businesses within the Southland region. She noted that the leadership symposium was a great opportunity to learn about new ideas and tools that improve communities and to come together with other non-traditional partners like the Realtors Association to effect change.
For municipal leaders, the workshop was especially meaningful as far too many of SSMMA’s communities have struggled for inclusive economic growth. The take-away: as a region, we are ready to move forward and work collaboratively to ensure our communities recover and are great places to live, work, play, worship, and thrive!
Thank you, Mayor Curry, for your leadership in the Symposium and your efforts to spur community reinvestment!
