Transgender Day of Remembrance | |
Today, November 20 is Transgender Day of Remembrance. We honour all those who have lost their lives to transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming violence. King's continues to proudly fly the Progress Pride flag to honour transgender people and all members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. King's is committed to providing information and resources to members of these communities. Recently, the 2SLGBTQIA+ Support Group began meeting on campus. | |
Ameena Abid
Ameena, an MSW student, was recently on GradCast, a podcast hosted by the Society of Graduate Students at Western.
A second-generation immigrant of Indian and Pakistani descent, Ameena appreciated the chance to share her research on nostalgia among second-generation immigrants. She discussed growing up between cultures and longing for a sense of identity and belonging.
Coming to King’s in 2021 as a Bachelor of Social Work student, Ameena “found a wonderful community here” and is now completing her Master of Social Work.

Magnaye-Jones and Von Muehldorfer named OUA football players of the week
After the Mustangs' victory over Laurier in the Yates Cup, two King's students were named Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Football Players of the Week for November 14, 2023.
Current student Savaughn Magnaye-Jones '23 was named Offensive Player of the Week. The fifth-year receiver had seven receptions for a total of 107 yards, including one for 23 yards.
Defensive lineman Max Von Muehldorfer, third-year Bachelor of Arts student majoring in Sociology and Criminology, was named Defensive Player of the Week, posting a trio of solo tackles and four assisted takedowns for a total of five on the day, and chipping in with half a sack for a loss of two yards.

A great season for the Western Mustangs Football team!
Congratulations to the Western Mustangs Football team on a remarkable season! Despite the loss at the Uteck Bowl in Montreal this past weekend, the team's dedication and sportsmanship have made the entire community proud. Here's to a fantastic season and continued success in the future. Well done, Mustangs!

The award-winning King's University College Chamber Choir presents their annual Christmas concert. “Welcome, Yule!” is a musical feast of festive and reflective songs of the Christmas season, featuring Benjamin Britten's mystical masterpiece, "A Ceremony of Carols," with special guest harpist, Kathleen Gahagan. Admission by freewill donation, with proceeds to the Health & Homelessness Fund For Change.

November 30, 2023 - Last day to withdraw without penalty from a full (1.0) course and full-year half (0.5) course resulting in a grade of ‘WDN’ (withdrawn). Course withdrawals after this date will appear on a transcript with a grade of "F".

Step into Christmas
The Step Into Christmas program supports the needs of the St. Joe’s Café community with donations of shoeboxes filled with new waterproof gloves, hats, wool socks, toiletries, chocolates and/or small treats or fun items. Items can be dropped off at Mary’s Altar at the Chapel at Windermere on the Mount by December 3, 2023, or at the right rear of the Christ the King Chapel in Wemple Hall by December 4, 2023. No donation is too small. Thank you for giving what you can. Items will be distributed at the St. Joe’s Café in December.

Invitation to Catholic students’ conference at King’s
Calling all university students! You're invited to take part in the Canadian Catholic Students’ Association Central Region Conference being hosted at King's January 19-21, 2024. Through service and dialogue we'll learn to give witness to our faith on campus and in our local communities. It's a chance to connect with other Catholic students from Ontario and Quebec and promises to be a great time of faith, fun, and fellowship. Fulbright Canada Research Chair to explore concepts of justice and reconciliation
King’s is hosting Dr. Cristina Stanciu, our first Fulbright Canada Research Chair in Justice and Reconciliation, in the 2024 winter term. “I look forward to working with faculty and students at King's, as well as community members...this is a wonderful opportunity for research collaborations in Indigenous and First Nations studies, as well as dialogue with local Indigenous community members, whom I'm very much looking forward to meeting,” says Dr. Stanciu.

Dr. Kennedy discusses arrest after U.K. hockey death with CBC
Dr. Liam Kennedy, Associate Professor of Sociology/Criminology, appeared on CBC's The National to discuss an arrest by police in England in the aftermath of the death of hockey player Adam Johnson, who was cut with a skate blade during a game in October.

Join us for Sunday Eucharist
Masses are offered in The Chapel at Windermere on the Mount (WOTM) on Sundays at 10 a.m. and at 5 p.m. followed by the community meal in the parish hall. Weekday Masses will be on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. at WOTM and noon mass on Thursdays and Fridays at King's Christ the King Chapel.
