Paid Tour Guide

Ongoing | 9th to 12th


As a tour guide, you will be responsible for leading groups of guests on a walking tour of Nubian Square, which includes the METCO HQ Exhibit Hall and historical sites in our surrounding community. Students must be able to engage in public speaking and have an outgoing personality. $50 stipend per tour. Tours are scheduled periodically on Saturdays and early evening hours. Trainings will be provided and an adult will always accompany and support the teen guide.

New METCO HQ’s Paid P.L.A.N. Summer Program

Application Deadline May 5th | Students ages 14-18


Students can now apply to participate in METCO HQ’s Preparing Leaders and Achievers Network (PLAN) life-readiness summer program. Participants are expected to be available for up to 25 hours a week of in-person programming at METCO HQ, from July 11th to August 25th. Participants will be paid $15/hour and will learn executive functioning, financial literacy, and job readiness skills, and engage in college and career explorations and off-site field trips.

New NAACP North Shore Branch Avis Peter Scholarship

May 15th Deadline|Seniors


The scholarship awards one $2,500 scholarship to a student of any major or area of study at a four-year institution who exhibits strong leadership skills and is active in their school and community. Students must be a high school senior in Massachusetts with a 3.0 or higher GPA and identify as a student of African descent. To apply students must complete the application including two essay questions and two letters of reference.

New J.C. Cannistraro Heavy Metal Summer Experience

May 1st Deadline| Rising sophomores and up 


Participants in the program will spend a week in mechanical contractor JC Cannistraro's working fabrication shop receiving hands-on mentorship from master tradespeople. Students will complete pipe and sheet metal projects and will learn about career paths in the construction trades. Students will also spend a day touring union training centers. Breakfast, lunch, vouchers for work boots, and assistance with transportation is provided. This is a free educational experience.

New Suffolk University Summer Public History Institute

Application due May 12 | High School Students


Join Suffolk University this summer for a 2-week day program for rising high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors—and immerse yourself in the rich history of Boston’s colonial and Revolutionary eras with the inaugural Suffolk University Summer Public History Institute.


Through historical site visits, small group discussions, and behind-the-scenes museum tours guided by expert history and art & design faculty, students will learn valuable skills in historical research, museum studies, and digital interpretation. Their studies will culminate in the creation of individualized digital exhibits using their very own Meta Quest unit, a cutting-edge virtual reality technology, which each student will get to keep!

Let’s Get Ready’s programs offer free college application support, SAT prep, and mentorship to thrive in college. Their “near-peer” model matches high school students gearing up for college with current college students who can advise, support, and identify with them.

New Boston City Singers Placement Sessions

May 20th & June 5-7 & 10 | Ages 4- 18


Boston City Singers provides comprehensive music instruction to over 500 young people annually. Weekly rehearsals are designed to provide our members not only with music instruction but with outstanding performance opportunities, youth development, cultural exploration, leadership training and community service. Pick a day and time to audition for placement in a program.

New Tuition Free Community College for ALL Boston Residents

The Tuition-Free Community College (TFCC) Plan pays for up to three years of tuition and fees for ALL Boston residents pursuing an associate degree or certificate program at a partner college. 


Beginning Fall 2023, the City of Boston is expanding eligibility for the Tuition Free Community College (TFCC) Plan to include all Boston residents regardless of age, income, or immigration status.

This program is a one-week day introduction to entrepreneurship in the context of social justice for rising 5th - rising 9th graders .The program will be at CIC Boston,50 Milk Street (Financial District) from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. The curriculum is dynamic and engaging and will leave children inspired to change the world. The cost of the program is $595 but METCO families can use the code BODOG90 for a 90% discount making the total cost $59. Fidelity College Scholarship Program 

May 4th Deadline | 9th to 12th Grade


Fidelity Scholars Program, a pledge of $250 million to the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) to help BIPOC students graduate with zero debt. The program combines a generous annual needs-based scholarship with robust wrap-around services that support students’ persistence to degree or certificate attainment.


The program is working to identify and support approximately 2,500 talented students who: 

  • Are in and around the Boston, Dallas/Fort Worth, and Raleigh/Durham metro areas
  • Are of African American/Black, Hispanic, Native American, or Asian / Pacific Islander heritage
  • U.S. citizens or legal residents
  • Pell Grant-eligible at the time of selection
  • Pursuing a degree at an eligible college or university
  • Have filled out FAFSA and have a demonstrated, unmet financial need
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 2.5-3.5

New METCO HQ & Haley House Take Back Kitchen Program 

April 15th Deadline | Middle School students


METCO Headquarters is teaming up with Haley House for their Take Back Kitchen Program. There will only be 12 slots available. 


Take Back the Kitchen (TBK) is a cooking and nutrition program that promotes the joy and health benefits of cooking food from scratch. The curriculum emphasizes using whole foods, trying new things, and understanding the personal, environmental, and social impacts of how we eat. The program uses a hands- on approach during classes that are taught by passionate and experienced chef-educators.


During each class, students learn basic cooking techniques, nutrition essentials, kitchen safety, and knife skills. Simultaneously, students prepare a meal to be shared at the end of the class, while reflecting on their experiences that day.


Programming will take place at Haley House, 12 Dade St. Roxbury, Ma. Programming is FREE for all participants. All classes are hands-on, and all materials are provided and distributed at the start of the program. Please fill out this google form, so we know you are interested in the program!

New Families First “Power of Parenting” Program

Limited Space | Sign Up Today! 


You are invited to participate in Families First’s Power of Parenting™ program that is starting May 2nd 2023! We will now be offering this program in Spanish for parents/caregivers raising children from 3-8 years old.


The Power of Parenting program is a FREE 12-session program that brings parents of young children together to continue strengthening parenting knowledge, skills, and support systems. Parents who join this program may be eligible to earn gift cards for participating, and will also be connected to Dress for Success or Suits & Smiles for free professional clothing as a thank you for being a part of this group.


The Power of Parenting/ El Poder de la Crianza program will meet twice a week on Tuesdays & Thursdays, from 6:30-7:45pm over zoom. It begins on Tuesday, May 2nd.

New City of Boston Youth Resource & Job Fair 

April 22nd | 14-24 years old 


The Office of Youth Employment and Opportunity (YEO) is hosting a Job and Resource Fair on Saturday, April 22, 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the Reggie Lewis Track and Field Center. There will be job placement opportunities, career development workshops, free food, raffles, giveaways, games, and so much more for youth. Please register in advance.

YouthBuild Boston Facilities Maintenance Apprenticeship

Ongoing| 18 years old and up 

 

This is a full time job with benefits for recent high school alumni starting at $18 per hour. Students receive a $1 raise after 9 months and then another $1 raise after 18 months. At the end of the program students would have taken free classes at Wentworth and earned their CAMT Certificates which stands for Certified Apartment Maintenance Tech. Students can move up from Facilities Maintenance Tech 1 to Tech 3 and afterwards there are supervisor roles they can earn.The management side passed tech 3 has 6 figure earnings potential.

Urban League Career Pathways Program 

Ongoing| 18 years old and up 


The Urban League will provide stipend job training programs in coding, graphic design, and STEM related fields. This program is open to young adults who have a high school diploma or GED. At the end of the programs participants will be placed with a company and if not they receive job assistance.
