Hope Partnership for Education

Virgil Sheppard - President and CEO

This past fall, Hope Partnership for Education proudly unveiled its newly transformed library, a dynamic space designed to inspire a love for reading, foster imagination, and support literary growth within the student body. Thanks to the generosity of donors and community supporters, nearly $8,000 was raised to complete this project, reflecting the diverse and culturally rich experiences of Hope’s students and families.

Unveiled on October 18, the library is now a vibrant, welcoming space filled with carefully curated books representing various voices, stories, and perspectives. The collection includes titles that celebrate cultural diversity, promote inclusivity, and nurture curiosity, aligning with Hope’s mission to provide students with a transformative, joy-filled education.

Beyond the bookshelves, the library serves as a hub for creativity and exploration with updated technology and a space for collaboration. Students are encouraged to explore new concepts, discover favorite genres, and cultivate a lifelong appreciation for learning. The library has now become a favorite destination for students, where they experience learning in an environment that promotes joy and discovery.

This project highlights our school’s commitment to reducing barriers to academic success and providing resources that equip students to thrive. As a cornerstone of the school’s vision, the library represents more than just a collection of books—it is a space where students can dream boldly, immerse themselves in diverse perspectives, and begin to shape their own stories.

Washington School for Girls (WSG)

Dr. Beth Reaves - Head of School

In October, 8th Graders from the Washington School for Girls embarked on a two-night camping trip to Monongahela National Forest in West Virginia, home to Seneca Rocks. This journey was made possible through a partnership with Conservation Nation, an organization dedicated to diversifying the conservation movement by supporting and funding conservationists from underrepresented communities. During the excursion, students had the opportunity to work closely with Forest Rangers to explore the rich biodiversity of the land, gain insights into the history of hunting practices used by Indigenous Peoples in the forest, and learn about the vital connection between the forest's watersheds and their own homes in Washington, D.C.

Throughout the trip, the girls kept journals, reflecting daily on how the forest engaged their senses—capturing the sights, sounds, and smells surrounding them. Drawing inspiration from Laudato Si': On Care for Our Common Home, the students connected their knowledge of conservation and sustainability with their faith, recognizing their responsibility to care for the environment and protect the natural world for future generations. On the final evening, they gathered for reflection on the beauty of God's creation. In her journal, 8th Grader Peyton shared: "The most beautiful thing I saw were the stars. I touched rocks and water. The environment inspired me to want to ask questions."
