No School Tomorrow, January 22

Due to the extreme cold, St. Francis DeSales High School will be closed tomorrow, January 22.

Quarter 2 Grades Available on Monday

Due to the school cancellations today and tomorrow, grades will now be available on PowerSchool on Monday, January 27 at 3:30pm.

Please consider helping if you can!

The French Exchange program is currently still in need of host families for three girls and four boys. This is a wonderful opportunity for your student and your family to make a connection and learn about another culture. Please contact Mrs. Heather Evans if you are interested in hosting a student at evans@desales.co or your student can see her in room 121 to receive the necessary paperwork.

Stallions in the Spotlight

Freshman Anthony Golladay received a Knights of Columbus Scholarship and was presented a check last week at school by Kevin Miller, a Knights of Columbus representative.

Congratulations to seniors Olivia Smith (December) and Jacob Reash (January) who were selected as the Westerville Rotary Club Students of the Month.

A sweet treat for a kind act!

To encourage donations to support the students at St. Elizabeth Parish Catholic School who have been impacted by the wildfires in California, SFD’s St. Vincent DePaul Club will be making buckeyes throughout this month. They will deliver these homemade buckeyes to the first 200 families who donate at least $25; donations for this SVDP club service initiative must be made online here. Some of the members of the SVDP club got together today to start fulfilling orders!

Photo of the Week

Mr. Bill Gavin, a representative from Mary's Meals, stopped by our Student Council meeting last week to speak to the students about how our school's donation to this organization is helping others worldwide. Pictured with Mr. Gavin are Principal Garrick, Senior Class Vice President McKenzie Amonor, and Student Council President Carter Ward. Last month, the Student Council organized a Red & Green Dress Down Day and Pictures with Santa to raise funds to support the efforts of Mary's Meals.

ACT Prep Course -- Register this Week!

DeSales will be offering an ACT prep course for the subjects of English, Reading, Writing, Math, and Science before students take the February ACT, which will be administered at SFDHS on February 25. For those registered for the ACT prep course, a diagnostic test will be given on Saturday, January 25, allowing students to practice and receive an informal score report before the prep course begins. The classes will be held after school, beginning on Thursday, January 30. *Signing up for the prep course is NOT signing up for the actual test in February.

Parents, please check your child's schedule for conflicts that may keep them from attending classes.

Please click here for all pertinent course information, including the course registration procedure. Registration form and payment will be accepted through Friday, January 24. You may also email Mrs. Garrick directly if interested in taking this prep course.

Chaplain's Corner

Praised be Jesus Christ! This week (Wednesday, January 22), all dioceses of the United States observe "a day of prayer for the full restoration of the legal guarantee of the right to life and of penance for violations to the dignity of the human person committed through acts of abortion." In response to this call, many schools, churches, and groups from across the country will make a pilgrimage to Washington, D.C., to lend our voices and support to this cause.

As a pilgrimage, the journey is not just a physical one, but a spiritual one as well. Please pray for those who are making the pilgrimage, especially from SFD, that the trip would be fruitful and make a lasting impact. Also, please pray for legal guarantees of the right to life and consider doing a penance for those who are committing unjust actions against life or suffering from these consequences.

Spiritual Reflection

Lord God, how marvelous are your deeds, holy and awesome is your name. You are Lord and master of all things, of even the Sabbath. May we always strive to keep holy the Lord’s Day and live every day as the gift it is from you. Amen.
