Happy New Year Friends!

Despite all the “huge” news about the celebrities in town over the holidays, those of us who have places here still “escape” to our beautiful bubbles no matter how large or small they may be! My family and I figured out long ago to get on the mountain around 9am and ski almost crowd-free until 10:30-11am. The Sunday after New Years we headed for the trees on Bell Mountain to enjoy 8-10 inches of fresh snow. It was almost impossible to book any restaurants that day, so we enjoyed an old-fashioned family lunch working together in the kitchen.

Another highlight was the fireworks on New Year’s Eve - it was a spectacular show! Our town has been quieter since New Years, but peak winter season is just around the corner. In the last week we have 8" of new snow and more on the way! Check out our upcoming events below.

FAMILY MEMORIAL CELEBRATION FOR MY DAD

Dec 28th was the 50th year anniversary of my father, Mort Berland’s death when he was killed in an avalanche at age 52 on the backside of Aspen Mountain. We planned a memorial on the top of Aspen on Jan 3rd. It was a magical day with Colorado bluebird skies! My sons, Noah and Tony Moss joined me to share stories and our love for the skiing legacy and Aspen values that my father left us. My Rabbi, Mendel Mintz, blessed my dad’s memory and added his words of wisdom, understanding who came before us and how he inspired me to in turn inspire my sons with the complete love and respect of nature.

REAL ESTATE UPDATE

Since the change in National Presidency, we have seen an uptick in real estate action and are on track for a healthy winter quarter. We mentioned the lower number of sales at higher dollar amount several times in 2024.

ONE PERSON was involved in the $108,000,000 sale on lower Red Mountain, a purchase at $48,000,000, a sale of a remodel on East Hyman $55,000,000, a purchase in the West End of Jack Nicolson’s former home for $58,000,000, PLUS two more by the music tent at $35,000,000 + each. This is about 21% of the over $1 billion in sales in the Aspen market for single family homes.

Does that skew our numbers... Yes, and we find more and more unlisted properties selling at $6-7,000+ per square foot. Unfortunately, too many sellers and their brokers are over pricing properties not nearly as exceptional as some of these. Tune in next month for further updates!!
