March Students of the Month
Danica Chakroborty
Class of 2023

Senior, Danica Chakroborty says she was lucky to have some really amazing classes each year at North Hunterdon. Since freshman year, Danica took all of Mrs. Vida's programming classes, where she learned she loves the subject and will be majoring in computer science in college next year. Some of her other favorite classes have been Mrs. Simpson's Honors English II, Mr. McSweeney's AP Micro/Macro, Ms. Carr's AP Lang, Mrs. Niznik's Honors World History, Ms. Fedorko's AP Lit, Mr. Prichett's APES, Mr. Schuetz's AP Stat, and Mrs. Carter's AP Calc AB. Danica enjoyed the environment of these classes and the support she always had from her teachers, which was especially helpful during and coming out of virtual learning. Danica is involved in Model UN, which she has been doing since 7th grade, and was elected to be the officer of the World Health Organization committee her junior year and was elected Secretary General for this year's conference. She has been a member of Youth and Government since 8th grade, where she was elected Chief Justice of the judicial branch for the past two years. Danica has been a lawyer for the past two years in Mock Trial and a witness the two years prior. She competes at the varsity level for the past two years on the Girl’s Swim Team, is co-president of National English Honor Society, a member of National Spanish, Social Studies, Science, and National Honor Society. Danica has been an officer for the Class of 2023 since her freshman year, where she was class Secretary for two years followed by Vice President. She is also the student representative to the Board of Education for North. Outside of North, Danica works at the Hunterdon County YMCA where she has been a swim instructor since 8th grade. She is a lifeguard, Aquatic Supervisor, and works at the local Kumon center as a tutor for math and reading. Danica has been attending the Conference on National Affairs since her freshman year, which is a week-long conference in North Carolina where delegates from all across the US meet to discuss and debate solutions to current problems in the nation. She became a part of the Youth Governor's Association this past year after being elected Secretary General for Model UN's 2022-2023 conference. Danica’s favorite memories from North were the writing conferences she had with Ms. Simpson, Mrs. Niznik's living history project, Mr. McSweeney bagel breakfast the morning of the AP Econ test, getting to know and love Harold (Mr. Prichett's lizard) with her friends Anokhi, Micaela, and Avni during APES, playing Scattergories, and watching As You Like It during Lit with Mrs. Fedorko.

Kylie McSweeney
Class of 2023

Senior, Kylie McSweeney says their experience at North has been full of amazing, enthusiastic teachers and a close-knit fencing team that they have loved being a part of for the past four years. Kylie’s favorite classes at North have been AP Chemistry and AP Drawing. Kylie loved doing labs in AP Chemistry last year because Dr. Wilhelm was always excited to teach the class. They have enjoyed being in drawing classes all four years at North with Mr. Calabrese. The drawing room has become a safe space for Kylie to explore their identity and share their experiences with others, and they are forever grateful. Kylie is on the fencing team at North and has been the Sabre Squad Captain for the last two years. They were on the NJIFA All State 3rd Team for Sabre in 2022. Kylie is the co-president of the school’s National English Honor Society and a member of Mu Alpha Theta, National Science Honor Society, National Social Studies Honor Society, and National Honor Society. Outside of school, Kylie fences at Manchen Academy of Fencing year-round and helps coach and teach beginner Sabre classes. They also spend a lot of time outside of school drawing and creating art. One of Kylie’s favorite memories from North was doing the flying pig lab in AP Physics C, when walking into the room and hearing the whirring of pigs circling around the room. Another of Kylie’s favorite memories was coaching their fencing teammates at meets and tournaments this season. They loved seeing all their teammates grow throughout the season and they are so proud of them. Next year, Kylie will be attending Johns Hopkins University where they are planning to major in Biology with a minor in Visual Arts and will be a part of their NCAA fencing team.

March Athletes of the Month
William Hershfeld
Class of 2023

Senior, William (Tate) Hershfeld has been swimming competitively for eleven years. Tate started swimming club for New Wave Swim Team when he lived in Raleigh, North Carolina. When Tate moved to New Jersey, he joined the Greater Somerset County YMCA, where he currently swims. North recently finished its season strong with an amazing performance at the Meet of Champions in early March. All of the team’s club swimmers carried that energy with them to the YMCA States meet in mid-March. Tate currently holds the team record for the 200 and 400 freestyle relays along with the 200-medley relay. He used to swim backstroke primarily, but this season Tate focused a lot more on butterfly and freestyle events. Last week, he qualified for Long Course Nationals in the 100 meters butterfly. Tate is a member of the National Honor Society, Latin Club, Latin National Honor Society, Social Studies National Honor Society, and Science National Honor Society. Next year, Tate would like to continue swimming in college, at the varsity or club level, depending on where he goes to school. Tate is currently considering Baylor, Furman, and Georgia Tech, where he plans to study Biology/ Neuroscience. Tate loves swimming and is excited for every opportunity he has to be on the pool deck. Alongside swimming, Tate participated in Boy Scouts for seven years, recently having attained his Eagle Scout rank. Tate would like to thank his amazing coaches, Coach Schuetz and Coach Holt. They have been extremely helpful in and out of the water, making his time on the North Swim Team memorable and fun.

Logan Wadle
Class of 2023

Senior, Lagan Wadle recently became the first individual Wrestling State Champion for North Hunterdon in 20 years. Logan has been wrestling since he was five years old. When not wrestling for North, you can find him wrestling for the Yale Street Wrestling Club. Logan wrestles at 106 lbs for the Lions wrestling team. This season, the team went 13-5 and won the Group 4 State Championship. Logan won the individual state title at 106 lbs at the State Tournament. Our extraordinarily talented students have more music and theater offerings coming your way and we’re sure you’ll find an event that will entertain you! But first…
Returning/New parents: we need your help!
The NHMA is looking to fill the following positions next year and would appreciate your review and consideration for a role you can step into to help support our students, department, and their programs:

Corresponding Secretary: a board position that will attend monthly meetings and coordinate correspondence on behalf of the organization as discussed. This may be a thank you note or email for information.
Banquet Chair: we have one person ready to roll, but it’s really a two-three-person job – Can you help? The Banquet chairs are responsible for organizing and hosting the fall marching band banquet and the spring music awards banquet. This position is best shared between two people. A detailed binder with guidance is passed down.
Membership Coordinator: This chairperson coordinates membership recruiting efforts through emails and in-person events. They work closely with the treasurer.
Newsletter/publicity: The NHMA strives to put out 2-3 newsletters per academic year to our members. This is a great opportunity to touch base with teachers, get creative, and showcase our students and organization.
NHTO Liaison: This is our first year filling this position. As many of our students are involved in all various aspects of the Fall Straight play, Winter Musical, and Spring Cabaret, we are working more and more closely with the NHTO for support needs and could use a point person to spearhead this!
Please reach out to the current President, Laura Lipinski, or anyone you know on the NHMA for more info/details and to discuss what you might want to do: nhmusicassociation@gmail.com
