Upcoming Service

All of You and All of Me is Welcome

Rachel Rogers

10:45 a.m., Sunday, February 9th, 2025

Inclusion and welcome are core to who we are as Unitarian Universalists. When we work to create this sense of inclusion, we often work to ensure that others feel welcome first, but do we extend that same sense of welcome to ourselves -- even the parts of us we don't necessarily feel the most connected to? Befriending ourselves is a gateway to befriending others. Together, we'll explore the barriers that keep us from doing this and tools we can use to open the gateway to befriending ourselves.

This Sunday Events

The Hospitality Team has a volunteer opportunity for folks who would like to help with our February Coffee Hours on Sundays after the service. Music News

Join the UUCH Music Ministry!

Everyone’s voice has a place in worship, whether you’re a seasoned vocalist or someone who simply loves to sing along to hymns. Through the act of singing together, you’re not just harmonizing notes; you’re harmonizing hearts in a spiritual symphony that celebrates faith, unity, and shared devotion.

Choir rehearsal this Sunday is at 12:10, after coffee hour.

Nursery Care

Nursery care will be available during the service
from 10:30-12:15.

Little ones can be signed in and out upon arrival and departure in the RE wing.

Note from Rev. Ruth

I am taking the news in carefully measured doses these days to support my mental health. There's only so much anxiety and chaos I can take.

I am also staying in touch with friends, taking daily walks in this deceptively warm weather, trying new low-carb recipes, sorting and clearing out old stuff--like a remote I found for a VCR we got rid of ten years ago!

I want to stay informed of national and world developments, while focusing most of my energy on things over which I have some control. There will be opportunities to act for change on a larger scale, but that will have to wait a little while. I am trying to keep my ranting and hand-wringing to a minimum right now.

I hope each of you can find useful places to focus your energy, keep your stress down, and find sources of stability and joy in these difficult times! Hang in there; don't hang yourself or anyone else!

In hope,

Rev. Ruth

This Week in CYRE

The theme this month is The Practice of Inclusion, and in this session, we continue our exploration of people and things that get “left out.” Whereas last week we looked at how people get left out, this week we turn to how stories get left out of our telling of history. We will dig into why this is, how it harms us all, and what we can do to tell “bigger stories” that honor us all.

First Friday!

Join us for First Friday February! This month we will be making self-love charms with Holly Baker and Leah Braswell! Dinner and drinks will be provided. Just bring yourself and if you wish a side or dessert to share.

Habitat for Humanity Home Build Continues!

Your help is needed! Volunteers will be working at the site most Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays depending on weather and subcontractor activity.

All volunteers must take a volunteer orientation class that is given virtually every week. The dates of the training vary, so please contact Brad at social.justice@uuch.org for the latest schedule.

Patio Garden Next Steps

The board has approved the final design and given the property committee the go-ahead to start implementing the Jane Welty memorial patio garden. The Hispanic association has agreed to help us with some labor. Thank you to everyone who gave input on the patio garden. We were able to get input from several diverse populations of people within our membership. We were able to include almost everything that was wanted.

You can see the plan and photos posted in the Fellowship Hall.

We want you to be a part of this beautiful addition to our church environment. Come out to participate in any and all of these property work days. We will have several because this is a big project and we plan to have it done in time for Rev. Jaimie and Will's welcome back party in early May. We are also looking for some scouts that need some community service hours. If you have connections with a scout troop, please let us know. We will also be looking to borrow the following:

  • Truck and trailer for hauling drainage gravel and topsoil
  • Wheelbarrows and shovels
  • Pressure washer

Work Dates:

  • February 22
  • March 8
  • March 22
  • April 5
  • April 26

Mark these Property work days on your calendar and let Property know if you have any of these connections or tool at property@uuch.org.

Make a Flag for Our Garden

The purpose of a Tibetan prayer flag is to spread prayers of good throughout the world. We are going to hang prayer flags in our new patio garden. Rather than just order some mass produced commercial flags, the property committee wants to give you the opportunity to offer your prayers of good out into the world. Each Sunday in February there will be individual flags and permanent sharpie markers available in the fellowship hall. The edge that is hemmed is the bottom. Use the provided pieces of cardboard to protect the tablecloths from the permanent markers and decorate your prayer flag. Thank you to Susan Cottington for her generous contribution of time, talent, and beautiful batik fabrics for this project.

Circle of Candles

Iris Black lit a candle of Sorrow/Joy: "I live with my sister, Gloria, and her husband, Patrick. Patrick died last Thursday after a long illness. Please remember my family in your thoughts as we celebrate his life and the fact that he experienced a peaceful transition."

Amanda Payne lit a candle of Joy: "It's been a joy attending the UU Classes, the past 3 Sundays. Thank you to everyone who attended, it was a joy sharing an accepting space with you all. An extra special thank you to Pam and Nancy for taking the time to teach us, and with grace!"

Little Food Pantry

Many of our neighbors and many unhoused people visit our LFP frequently, and over the holidays and the colder part of the year, their needs increase. Consider buying a few extra cans of soup or veggies to contribute—your Board made a 5-can donation pledge from each of us as one of our Service Projects for the year! For suggestions of what to donate (and what not to donate), check out this list: Pantry Food Items. Remember that many families don’t have the experience or the equipment to handle dried beans, and that the unhoused particularly benefit from cans that don’t require can openers. A little help from us can go a long way Please, if you are able to fill it up, please note your name in the Genius. Also, you can bring non- perishables to church, as there are baskets. A big thank you to all who do contribute!
