Say hi to Aidan and Harrison! We’re excited to welcome our summer interns to our regional planning and transportation departments.

Aidan is a rising senior at UConn from Ellington studying Geographic Information Science and Political Science. He’s currently pursuing an independent research project through UConn's distinguished University Scholar program studying the equity of urban park systems in Hartford. Aidan also works alongside USDOT's Bureau of Transportation Statistics as a GIS Fellow. An aspiring urban planner, he is excited to be working with CRCOG this summer to address regional matters with data-driven solutions.

Harrison is a recent graduate from the University of Connecticut, where he was the Editor-in-Chief of The Daily Campus, the nation’s oldest daily-print college newspaper. In class he studied Urban and Community Studies and Philosophy, and outside of class his work focused on politics and inclusive design. Harrison is excited to make Connecticut’s transportation system safer and more equitable.

Highlights from the 2023 CT Education Network (CEN) Annual Conference

The Connecticut Education Network (CEN) held its annual member conference at the CT Convention Center in Hartford on May 11, 2023. There were over 600 attendees from the IT, education, municipal, and state sectors as well as a vast array of IT and cybersecurity vendors.

There were 50 workshops, panels, and presentations over five concurrent sessions throughout the day covering topics from municipal cybersecurity breach responses to artificial Intelligence (AI) in education.

CRCOG and the South Central Regional COG (SCRCOG) presented on a panel with Novus Insight, Inc., discussing the importance of a cohesive incident response plans, insurance issues and how COGs can and do facilitate regional sharing of strategies in the cybersecurity arena. Several COGs, including CRCOG, are the fiduciary agencies for their corresponding CT Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security regions and run cyber security task forces comprised of IT managers from their member municipalities.

The annual CEN conference continues to expand in its range of topics, IT (and non-IT) sector representation, and vendor offerings, while growing in attendance and level of participation. As is true with many events in this area, the networking and sharing of ideas and experiences (what works AND what doesn’t) is one of the most valuable parts of the day.

Feel free to contact Erik Snowden, CRCOG IT and GIS Manager, with any questions.

We had a great meeting! Thank you to ezIQC® attendees

After a three-year pandemic hiatus, CRCOG and the Gordian Group were excited to resume the seventh annual ezIQC User’s Group meeting on May 11 in person. Approximately 33 municipalities and agencies were in attendance, and great discussion ensued about the program.

CRCOG welcomed seven new users to the program and awarded the town of Southington the “Highest Frequency/Most POs Issued” award for Road and Bridge Construction, and the City of New Britain the “Largest Individual Project Procured Through ezIQC” award since the start of the program for its $13.3 million Public Works Facility.

For information on how to use ezIQC in your municipality, contact Kim Bona
