Dear Rockford Reformed Church Family and Friends,

Just a quick note to keep you informed… First, I am grateful for your prayers through my recovery (as noted in the weekly prayer list) following a septoplasty and turbinate reduction on Wednesday. I cannot remember ever breathing freely through my sinuses and several of you have mentioned how you could occasionally hear my heavy breathing through the microphone. After exhausting multiple other methods/therapies for allergies, etc., I am hopeful that this will provide some relief. The recovery has been frustratingly slow and bumpy, and as you might expect, I don’t sit around and wait for healing very well.

So, tomorrow, we welcome Rev. Doug Van Bronkhorst, a former RRC pastor. Doug is a good friend of James Karsten and has served as pastor at First Reformed in Grandville and Walnut Creek Presbyterian (California). He has also served as the Executive Director of Interserve, USA (a mission agency focused on the 10/40 window) and Executive Pastor at Cascade Fellowship CRC. I am grateful for his covering for me with the preaching.

Next Sunday, I look forward to sharing “Journey to Integrity” from Zechariah 7. We will also take some time for the youth and leaders to share some photos and stories from their impactful trip to Harrisburg, PA. Ruth and I will be away in that following week of August 6 to spend time with family in Iowa. James Karsten will preach for us on August 13.

Finally, here’s just a quick reminder to sign up for the Whitecaps Outing on August 15. The sign-up deadline is this Monday.
