November 2024

Dear Habitat for Humanity,

As we approach the holiday season, I am excited to invite you to a special event that brings together the spirit of the season with the values that drive our work at Habitat for Humanity of Monroe County. On Saturday, November 23 at 3 p.m., we’ll be hosting our second annual screening of the beloved holiday classic It’s a Wonderful Life at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater.

This timeless film has long been a favorite for families, and its powerful message about service and community is something that resonates deeply with us. The story of George Bailey teaches us about the profound impact one person can have on the lives of others. It’s a powerful reminder of the importance of selflessness, the need to support vulnerable populations, and the lasting difference we can make by coming together to help our community.

As we reflect on these themes, I am proud to share that Monroe County Habitat has been doing just that for the past 36 years. Since 1988, we’ve built more than 233 homes, providing stability and safety for over 860 neighbors, including nearly 500 children. This event is a wonderful opportunity not only to celebrate the holiday season but also to reflect on our collective efforts in expanding affordable housing and building stronger, more resilient communities in Bloomington.

I hope you’ll join us for this family-friendly event, which promises to be a fun and meaningful way to embrace the holiday spirit. It's also a great chance to learn more about our ongoing work and how you can be a part of this important mission.

Thank you for your continued support, and I look forward to seeing you there!

A Special Visit from Habitat for Humanity El Salvador

Last week, we had the privilege of hosting our friends Vanessa and Roberto from Habitat for Humanity El Salvador here in Bloomington. It was a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the significant work they are doing in their country while also sharing the efforts we're making in Monroe County.

Through Habitat's tithe program, we’ve been proud to support Habitat El Salvador since 2003. Our contributions have directly helped them serve over 150 families in El Salvador.

We are continually inspired by the incredible impact Habitat for Humanity El Salvador is making in their community. We truly enjoyed our time together and look forward to continuing this valuable partnership for years to come!

Exciting Milestone: Samantha Said Yes to the Address!

Samantha, a future Habitat homeowner, has made exciting progress in her journey to homeownership! After visiting where her home will be built, she was presented with a lot offer—and she said yes! With her decision made, we can officially begin the building process.

Thanks to months of thorough planning and collaboration, including designing a home layout tailored to Samantha's needs, construction is ready to start.

A special thank you to Springpoint Architects and HAStech Accessible Solutions for their expertise in creating a design that ensures her new home will be both accessible and fully functional.

We are excited to continue this journey with Samantha and can’t wait to see her dream home come to life!

Celebrating Angelique's Home with Whirlpool & IU Kelley

As the Whirlpool Blitz Build has successfully finished, we must share the amazing time we had celebrating Angelique and her family, as well as the collaborative efforts that made her new home possible. Angelique’s home is generously sponsored by Whirlpool Corporation in partnership with the Indiana University Kelley School of Business.

To honor this wonderful partnership, we hosted a special morning celebration at Angelique’s new home, where current and former leaders from Whirlpool and the Kelley School joined us to see the impact of their contributions firsthand. The celebration continued with a symbolic key pass at the IU Homecoming football game, a moment that marked the beginning of Angelique’s new chapter.

A huge thank you to Whirlpool and the IU Kelley School of Business for your unwavering support. Your contributions are truly invaluable, and we are beyond grateful for the difference you’ve made in Angelique’s life and in our community.
