White Horse Recovery Annual Fund

White Horse Recovery assists those navigating addiction and mental health with a focus on talk therapy and an offering of a faith based component. Services are provided to all regardless of ability to pay from Wakefield to Canada with facilities in Ossipee, North Conway, Littleton, Berlin, and Colebrook is being considered.

Those availing themselves of the optional faith component, typically have greater odds of long term sobriety. White Horse Recovery has had a positive impact in many ways and has been asked by both local and state entities to consider expanding.

White Horse Recovery provides outpatient counseling at clinical offices, peer support along with soft entry to explore services and back flow prevention through our recovery community centers where one can get free food, free internet, a free shower, assistance with finding services, free clothing, recovery coaches, a family type setting, and Friday night pizza parties. White Horse Recovery hopes to provide our first residential setting soon with a recovery residence, formerly known as sober living. White Horse Recovery also provides emergency response services to homes to help diffuse mental health situations and to emergency rooms to assist with placement of those navigating addiction.

Letter from White Horse Recovery Executive Director Matthew Plache:

White Horse Recovery marked its ten year anniversary this year. Over the past decade, we’ve grown from a startup nonprofit with one employee and an unrelenting commitment to fighting the scourge of addiction, into a highly regarded clinical and peer support provider covering NH’s three northern counties, with 29 employees and five separate locations. In the course of this growth we have touched and changed thousands of lives. It has taken tireless dedication from staff, generous support from donors, and even a few miracles along the way to get to where we are.

Today, our work continues unabated, and the challenges we face are growing. While we have made tremendous strides in addressing the opioid crisis, we continue to face a serious drug and alcohol problem in our state, along with rising mental health issues. A major barrier to further progress is a lack of treatment capacity. White Horse Recovery is here to provide support to individuals, families, and businesses when they need assistance for a loved one, friend, or employee struggling with mental health or addiction. We are proud to be one of the few organizations that accept Medicaid, and we never refuse services due to an inability to pay.

In my role as Executive Director, and previously as a board member of White Horse Recovery, I have witnessed firsthand the life-changing impact of our programs. White Horse Recovery is currently working toward expanding our clinical services and establishing a residential recovery housing facility. We have grown to be one of the largest providers of peer support services in NH with recovery centers in Littleton, Berlin, N Conway and Ossipee. White Horse recently began a program at the Kingswood Youth Center to promote drug prevention in teens and we will be expanding this program throughout our service areas. We also recently began providing pro bono recovery support to inmates in the Carroll County jail, with excitingly successful results, and have been asked to expand our program to Coos County.

The costs associated with these endeavors are substantial. This is why we are reaching out to our friends and supporters for help. We are asking for your support in contributing to our Annual Fund. Our goal is to raise $200,000 by the end of this fourth quarter. Thanks to a generous donor, every gift will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $50,000, doubling the impact of your contribution. I am a board member of White Horse Recovery and was looped in eight years ago by a request for pro bono services. My wife and I have traveled to Kentucky twice to visit a similar faith based recovery non profit to learn more of the ropes and benefits of the optional faith based component. The hope of this missive is twofold. First, is to let you know of White Horse Recovery services in the event White Horse Recovery may be of assistance either directly or by referral to nationwide resources to someone you love in navigating addiction and/or mental health. Second, faith based recovery non profits nationally typically have much larger annual funds allowing them greater efficacy. No Longer Bound in the Atlanta area gains about 3M of it's 4M annual budget from their annual fund . The second hope then is to build the annual fund by connecting the dots of those who don't know of us yet and would like to oar in by donating dollars to a positive response to these two substantial challenges that affect so many people in all strata.
