With one rainstorm after another in January, San Dieguito River Park Rangers are working hard to keep our trails safe. Before, after and during the rains, rangers dig drainage trenches to evacuate standing water from the trail surface.
Quickly removing ponding water prevents hazardous conditions and erosion. So does closing the trails when the ground is waterlogged. If more than a half-inch of rain falls within a 24-hour period, we close the trails to prevent damage and let them dry out.

Walk-N-Talk in Crest Canyon
Come feel the love during our Pre-Valentine's Day stroll 9:30 a.m. Feb. 13 at Crest Canyon in Del Mar.
The two-mile hike will take us from the trailhead at Lozana Road and Durango Drive to the San Dieguito Lagoon.
The walk itself is easy but be advised that we'll need to go up and down three sets of stairs to get in and out of the canyon.
We'll chat about restoration work within the canyon and the rare, coastal chaparral specimens it contains. At the lagoon, we can point out the alignment of the planned extension of River Path Del Mar.

Kim Rogers, Community Engagement Manager
Please join us in welcoming Kim Rogers to the role of Community Engagement Manager. Kim is a native of Southern California and the outdoors and camping are in her DNA. So is protecting our precious natural and cultural resources. Kim earned a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Technology and Policy from CSU Monterey Bay. She is excited to expand the reach of our outdoor and educational activities. We can’t wait to put her experience as an environmental educator, yoga instructor and photographer to good use. Welcome aboard, Kim!

Jessica Yost, Interpretive Ranger
Introducing Jessica Yost, Interpretive Ranger for the San Dieguito River Park. In her role, Jess will facilitate educational programs, community events, media design, volunteer recruitment, habitat restoration and park maintenance. Jess is a Bay Area native who has made San Diego her home for the last four years. She earned a master’s degree in Environmental Health Sciences from San Diego State University and a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies from Sonoma State University. She’s publishing two pieces of scientific literature based on toxicology research of embryonic development and gene disruption of zebrafish. Her experience as a scientist, California naturalist, land manager, mentor and technology specialist have more than prepared her to thrive in her new role. In her free time, Jess enjoys yoga, photography, dancing, exploring new destinations and playing with her dogs. Welcome aboard, Jess!

Debbie Croft, Administrative Assistant
Please join us in welcoming Debbie Croft, the Conservancy's new Administrative Assistant. The many hats she'll wear include assisting with events, activities and outreach. As a master of tasks, Debbie will keep the office running smoothly.
Her experience includes office management, copyediting, human resources management, digital marketing and video production scheduling.

As part of a senior project, students from John Paul the Great University visited Sikes Adobe Historic Farmstead to shoot scenes for "Pardoning Beauty."
The short film explores mending relationships through art and painting.
