The Phragmites fight

Pictured: a new Phragmites population establishing at the public piers

Phragmites is a tall and stubborn plant that invades wet areas across North America. We noticed that it has started to establish at the public piers, in and around some of the native vegetation.

With permission from the Town of Culver, we conducted a spraying of this patch to keep it from getting out of control. We also partnered with private property owners just downstream of the lake's outlet to continue our efforts to reduce the massive patch there.

You can help us stay on top of this by reporting new populations of Phragmites (learn to identify this grass by clicking this link). Handling them as soon as possible is much more cost-effective than letting it get out of hand. Thanks!
