Dr. Rudolf “Rudy”
J. Utzschneider
March 28, 1930 - January 12, 2023
Please join the Foundation’s current and former Directors and staff in remembering Dr. Rudolf “Rudy” J. Utzschneider who passed away recently at home in Shrewsbury at the age of 92 with his loving family by his side.

Dr. Utzschneider lived a remarkable life, which is described in his obituary and which gives us inspiration for how to spend our days. In addition to all that he accomplished as a general and vascular surgeon at Saint Vincent Hospital for almost 40 years, he was devoted to his family and his community. He played a prominent role in the Foundation’s creation and early years.

As a founding Director, Dr. Utzschneider was a valued member of the Foundation’s Board of Directors from 1999-2002, during which time he served as Treasurer. He subsequently served as a Community Member on the Investment Committee from 2002-2010. Founding President and CEO Dr. Jan Yost, who retired last March, reflected, “Dr. Utzschneider played an instrumental role in creating the Foundation and then establishing its grantmaking and investment policies. His commitment to improving the health of his patients was broadened to include the health of the residents of Central Massachusetts through the Foundation, and thus, Dr. Utzschneider's legacy will endure in perpetuity. We remain deeply grateful for his service.”

Dr. Utzschneider’s family has requested that expressions of sympathy be made to The Health Foundation Fund, Inc., the Foundation’s 501(c)(3) affiliate, at 446 Main Street, 20th Floor, Worcester, MA 01608 or https://hfcm.org/thffund/.

We send our heartfelt condolences to Dr. Utzschneider’s family, and we honor his legacy through the Foundation’s grants to improve the health of those who live or work in Central Massachusetts.
