Community Connection

March 2023

Happy Spring from the CFCI Team!

Spring has arrived, and the Community Foundation of Central Illinois is buzzing with energy and hope for the season ahead. We are busy completing reviews for spring grants and scholarships, taking nominations and planning for Women's Fund Leader Luncheon, writing our annual report, and planning our annual meeting!

As we welcome the new beginnings and fresh opportunities that spring brings, we invite you to join us in supporting the community and making a difference where it matters most. By donating to the Community Foundation of Central Illinois, you can help us fund scholarships, grants and initiatives that empower individuals, strengthen families, and build a more resilient and vibrant community for all. Let's celebrate this time of growth and renewal together, and sow the seeds for a prosperous and fulfilling year ahead.

Ending Hunger Together Community Conversation

The Ending Hunger Together Fund was established to address food insecurity in central Illinois by working to create a framework that mixes healthy food access, civic education and community development. HEAL Food System Partners, led by Tazewell County Health Department, and Peoria Grown for their Market 309 project, were each awarded $20,000 to continue their work to address food insecurity issues in the community. Watch the highlight reel from Ending Hunger Together Community Conversation event held February 21, 2023.

Community Works Grants

The Community Works grant is funded through the Gilmore Fund established at CFCI to promote job creation and job retention in the central Illinois area. This grant does not fund individual organizations working in isolation; it requires innovative collaboration among two or more organizations.

Emerging Philanthropists Fund

The Emerging Philanthropists Fund is an initiative designed by the Community Foundation of Central Illinois (CFCI) to invigorate emerging community leaders to join together as philanthropists. The group is comprised of a cross section of professionals in the community who like to have fun, but who also want to positively impact the quality of life in central Illinois.

Together, members build the Emerging Philanthropists Fund, an endowment which addresses community needs through grantmaking. The Emerging Philanthropists Fund offers a unique opportunity to its members by providing them with a vehicle for strategic giving, information about the grantmaking process and the ability to learn more about the many nonprofit organizations in central Illinois.

The Fund’s giving circle model allows members to be philanthropic without having to be wealthy. By pooling together yearly membership contributions, as well as additional donations, the Fund grows. Each year, a portion of the fund is granted back into the community through a grantmaking process. Emerging Philanthropists Fund members ultimately vote on which nonprofit organizations receive grants from the Fund.

In addition to grantmaking, members will gain basic philanthropic skills and be connected with established philanthropists in the community. It is a wonderful way to get involved!
