Hello from Haiti!
Inflation!
Inflation is taking a toll all over the world, and especially in Haiti. As of January, the inflation rate was 49.3% on an annualized basis. (Reference: Trading Economics) Our giving has been steady this year, but our purchasing power is eroding. God is in control, so we don't panic! In that context, though, we wanted to give a short update on three things in this newsletter, two of which we asked you to pray about last month.
Still no Rain!
It continues to be very dry in our part of Haiti. It now has been three months since there has been measurable rain. Pray for those showers to come, but nothing tropical! It may seem odd to have a photo of a hole in the ground in this update, but that's the cistern. It was dug by hand, and you can get an idea of how big it is from the buckets in the bottom and the shovel handle. After this photo was taken in 2016, it was lined in concrete and covered. Now it is completely dry. We had a tank truck deliver some water so the clinic could continue to operate, but water from the sky would surely be welcome!
Funding the X-Ray System
This is a longer term fundraising project, and we're praying for continued giving. We have written about the need for a portable X-ray system in previous newsletter issues. We truly appreciate all of you who have been able to give. As of this writing, we are at $20,200 toward our goal of $55,000. We would be grateful if you could share this link to the fundraising and information page with your friends and connections: https://haiticheri.givingfuel.com/xray.
It's a big goal, and we have a lot of ground to cover, but we want you to know that we appreciate every dollar that has been given and every prayer that has been lifted.
Medicine Drive
Lastly, we are announcing a new initiative to supply the clinic with over-the-counter medicine. We did a drive like this last year, and it was a tremendous success. By purchasing over-the-counter medicine and supplies for the clinic, our resources are free to purchase prescription medications. You can shop for us on Amazon using this link: Medicine Wish List. We love this project because it is accessible to just about everyone. You can reach out and help someone in Haiti with a purchase of $10 or less. This is just a sneak peek as we'll write more about it next month!
Thank you so much for your faithful giving and prayers.
