Yoga Starts This Month

We are happy to announce that our Sunday morning yoga classes will be starting up again March 26th at 10 a.m. Classes are generally held outdoors on the mountain with a beautiful view of the valley, weather-permitting. When weather is uncooperative, classes will be held in our geodesic dome.

Classes are taught by our Yoga and Wellness Director, Toni Wilhelm. Toni's style of teaching reflects the many practices she has carried throughout her 20-year devotion to yoga: that of gentle, Hatha, Vinyasa, Ashtanga, and marries them all for a seamless and compassionate soft flow that will leave you feeling at ease.

These relaxing yoga classes are designed to help you move through postures with intention and self-compassion. You will stretch, strengthen, and cultivate balance as you flow with focus on connecting the breath with movement. Everyone is welcome, regardless of athleticism or yogic experience, and modifications are offered allowing you to make this practice your own. You will leave feeling refreshed with a greater connection to your body, mind and spirit.

Permaculture Design Course (PDC)

We are offering more than 100 hours of classes. Take them all or choose the classes that fit your passions. We offer each class to be taken individually or as a bundle--either way you can earn your way to a PDC certificate in your time.

2023 Class Schedule

PDC Requirements

You will need to complete 72 PDC-credit hours to complete your PDC and receive your PDC certificate from the REED Center. Some classes are required in order to receive the certificate, while others are optional and may be selected based on interest and relevance. The classes that we offer that count for credit towards your PDC will always be marked on the event page on the website. Please note that classes are open to all, whether pursuing a PDC certificate or simply pursuing general interests.

Earth Day Weekend Celebration

What better way is there to celebrate Earth Day than to plant trees? Come join us -- and bring friends -- for all or part of this three-day celebration and experience the pure joy of working together to transform a damaged landscape into a thriving productive ecosystem.

In collaboration with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation and volunteers of all ages and backgrounds, our goal is to plant 5,000 trees and shrubs on 12 acres of land in a single weekend!

In addition, we will be offering three one-hour workshops on grafting and plant propagation techniques. Whether you're a novice or a pro, or somewhere in between, this will be a terrific opportunity to learn, practice and share skills that can be put to use in your own back yard or neighborhood.

On Saturday evening, we will be hosting a live concert in honor of our dear friend who passed away unexpectedly last year: Terrence E. Brown. We will carry forward and celebrate his great joy for life and his love of the natural world around us.

For those who wish to connect with the land even more directly, we offer camping overnight at our hillside campsites with spectacular sunrise views. Campers will need to bring their own food and equipment.

PDC Students can also earn PDC-credit hours for helping with this large-scale tree-planting event. For more information about this option, please contact us at events@thereedcenter.org.

More Ways to Participate

Volunteer Work Days

On the first and third Saturdays -- March to November-- we invite land caregivers of all experience levels to come out to Morning View Food Forest and help with whatever tasks have been prioritized for that day. It might be planting trees, building fences, removing invasives or any other timely task. Whatever the task, it's always great fun to be outdoors and working with others, as we continue to build community.
