Jordan High, Port of L.B. Launch Partnership
Jordan High School's ACE Academy is the second pathway partnership between the Port of Long Beach and the Long Beach Unified School District.

COVID Vaccine Offered For Ages 5 to 11

Rotary Raises Record $78K for Literacy
The Rotary Club of Long Beach recently marked its most successful fundraising day after raising an all-time record of $78,000 for its “Reading by 9'' program, which supports Long Beach Unified School District students.
SHOPPING SPREE – Webster Elementary School students joined police officers and community volunteers for the “Shop with a Cop” event at Target on Bellflower Boulevard.

About 100 students from Webster Elementary School enjoyed a pancake breakfast and shopping spree as part of the annual “Shop with a Cop” event held in partnership with the Long Beach Police Department.

Student Art Contest Winners
More than 100 young artists from local middle and high schools participated in the annual National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Art Contest held at the Aquarium of the Pacific.
WINNING ARTWORK – “The Howling Sea Monster” by Luca Vega-Garcia of MacArthur was selected as the winning elementary school artwork.
Names in the News
The Long Beach Press-Telegram recently announced the winners of its 2021 Halloween-themed Scary Stories Contest, noting that the contestants were "scary good."
Professional Development Workshops for Classified Staff

Are you looking to grow in your leadership? The Equity Leadership & Talent Development Office is offering three voluntary professional development programs for full-time classified staff.

The application period for these three leadership programs closes on Dec. 3.

If you are interested in learning about these programs, please join an optional Zoom Information Session on Thursday, Nov. 18 from 7:30 to 8 a.m., or 4 to 4:30 p.m.

STRS Retirement Planning

Virtual retirement seminars for employees participating in the California State Teachers’ Retirement System will be held on the following dates:

  • Wednesday, Dec. 15 from 3:35 to 5:15 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2022 from 4 to 5:30 p.m.

The presentations will be held by a CalSTRS counselor via Zoom. Each seminar will explain CalSTRS service retirement allowance, retirement options, updates on legislation, and disability and survivor benefits. CalSTRS members are encouraged to attend if they are eligible for retirement.
